Great haul by guest Mike Montgomery tonight. Thunder chased everyone off the lake in the late morning, but he headed back out once the storm cleared. Some beauty Kok's here.
Beautiful weather we've been having here. The fishing has been very good, the sites are nice and dry. A massive improvement over the wild water show we had last year. I got a chance to finish off our pirate ship just in time for Cap'n Jayce and his first mate Cache to take it on it's maiden voyage. A big thankyou goes out to Rona Interlakes. A few years ago they gave me a big pile of pan abode log 2nds for free and told me to do something creative with them. And here we have it! We haven't named her yet, but the likely choice is SS Scruffy. We will see what the kids decide later in the season.
First fish of the season! Congrats goes out to young Aidan for his 1 1/2lb Kokanee he decided to name "dinner". It was a weird weather day, overcast and the finder showing the schools were down around 30 feet. Father & son weren't having any luck with their regular gear, so I suggested one of our own brand glow bead wedding band and of course, some of our homemade garlic krill corn. The afternoon session was very fruitful, with lots of bites, dad releasing many back and the 7yr old deciding he needed to eat the one that fought him for 20 minutes lol. We still have lots of May availability, and the fish are only going to get bigger! Happy Mother's day as well!
Here's a look at the lake as of 11am today (May3). I took my boat out and was able to play ice breaker. The lake is about 25% clear and the ice that remains is only 1" thick, so if we get any rain or wind today, that will be the end of it. When I was putting the docks in yesterday, there were a couple fish jumping around. Even they are eager to welcome you! We have an availability calendar on our website, and you can view it at the following link http://moosehavenresort.com/availability-calendar/
The photo is to get your attention, and hopefully a smile, during what is a trying time for us and for you as well. Due to the current travel restrictions that have been put into place, we will not be accepting any guests that would have to travel from outside of the Interior/Northern health region effective immediately until May 25th. If you feel your trip qualifies as "essential travel" within the Province's posted guidelines, feel free to call the office and discuss it wit...h us. All others that do not qualify, can choose to change dates or we will give you a full refund. If cancelling a stay after May 25, our regular cancellation policy will apply. If the restriction is extended, we will review all policies and reservations at that time. We look forward to getting past this and returning to "normal" as soon as possible. Any local folks looking for a quiet get-away, in a cabin or RV site, give us a call. All of a sudden, we have availability when usually we are fully booked! (250) 593-2300. Stay safe everyone!
Every year since taking over Moosehaven, we have replaced or improved at least 1 of our dock systems. Last year we added 18 slips to the new docks in front of the flag. This year is no different. The last remaining dock from days gone by will be replaced this season with a new set of docks that will be wheel chair friendly. This new dock system will be a consistent 8 feet wide with a curb around the outside so it can be used by people in wheel chairs or mobility carts that wish to access their boats safely. The old dock will be relocated in front of the small cabins as a swimmer's platform and will no longer be used for boats. We are hoping this creates a better buffer zone between boaters and swimmers. Now if only the ice would hurry up and melt!
As we get closer to the start of our season here, I thought I would share the stocking report for the lake over the last few years. Of particular importance is the stocking of 4,500 60 gram or bigger Blackwater Rainbow in 2019 and 2020. Fisheries decided to go with this size instead of the smaller rainbow so they would have a better chance of surviving vs squaw fish and other char in the lake. Rainbows in the boat have been few and far between for many years now, and last year, it started to pick up a bit, with some 3 & 4 lb beauties caught, as well as quite a few smaller ones. We've become known as a pretty exciting Kokanee fishery, but it looks like the Rainbows are making a comeback, courtesy of some thoughtful stocking by the folks at Freshwater Fisheries of BC
I saw this on another page and had to share... I suggest Walkie Talkies or cell phones. OR, better yet, if Russ is around, he speaks back up hand lingo! (Flag him over) Hahaha! Thank goodness most of our sites are pull thru! I can't wait for summer! Michelle
We are in the process of confirming all reservations currently on the books. If you don't have one but are thinking about it, we are filling up fast for the season. We have an availability calendar on our website that shows all vacancies for the entire season. Here is a video of our lake and resort to remind you how truly beautiful and scenic our lake and area are https://youtu.be/XL_80NJPgkk
A beautiful sunny day today with a skiff of snow on the ground. We are still open until the end of the month for anyone looking for a spot for an RV or one of the 2 cabins (Homestead & North Star) we still have open. Call us toll free (888) 744-2271 or check our website availability calendar. Stay safe everyone!
These are 2 of Scruffy's kits! Sadly, the first photo is the best photo, I could get of the Black kit. The red fox (boy? or girl? ) is a lot more social, while foraging. Scruff isn't encouraging them to hang around, sadly.
Happy Thanksgiving From Our House To Yours. No filters were needed this morning. It is a beautiful, calm morning, with mist on the lake. We thank all of you for the wonderful contributions that you bring to the resort and our lives. Stay safe!
