From the Desk of Mrs. Gunner: This week, May 23-29, is Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week and the Grade 1 class wanted to do an activity to let local paramedics know how important their services are to our community. The Grade 1 students printed a letter to spell out "thank you" to the WAHA Paramedics. @WAHA.ON.CA You are all appreciated! Meegwetch!
From the Desk of Mrs. Ross: Some of our students at Moosonee Public School have been learning about a young, Cree girl from Attawapiskat, Ontario -Shannen Koostachin. Shannen helped launched the largest youth- driven children's rights movement in Canadian history. She fought for "safe and comfy" schools and quality, culturally-based education for First Nations children. "Shannen knew that some First Nations communities have good schools, but many don't. It is hard for ki...ds to learn and feel proud of who they are when their school is falling apart, or full of mould, or when they don't have proper books and other things to learn with. She wasn't just standing up for her school in Attawapiskat, Serena said. She was asking for a proper school for every First Nations community that needed one." (Spirit Bear: Fishing for Knowledge, Catching Dreams - Cindy Blackstock) Shannen believed, "School is a time for dreams and every kid deserves this!" She asked us to never give up until every child has a proper school. On Thursday, May 27th, we will be sharing student messages supporting Shannen's Dream. A message from a Grade 6 student.

When you leave your home, you need to take responsibility for ourselves and others by practicing physical distancing. Physical distancing means keeping ...our distance from one another. When you go outside of your home, it means standing the distance of a moose (2 meters or 6 feet) away from other people whenever possible. Together, let's look after our loved ones by washing your hands, wearing a mask, and practicing physical distancing. If you are not well, stay home to protect others. If you have any questions related to COVID-19, please send an email to [email protected].

Today, on Indigenous Veterans Day, we remember those from Moosonee, Moose Factory, and the James Bay coast who left their communities and served in the military in the First World War, Second World War, Korean War and ongoing peacekeeping missions. May their sacrifices be remembered. On Wednesday, November 11th, we will be hosting a socially-distanced ceremony in the school for our students and staff. While COVID-19 may prevent us from coming together as a community, we hope everyone please keeps a place in their heart for our veterans.
