There will not be a meeting at the clubhouse tonight. Please watch here for updates regarding meetings.
We are a small club. We work hard to keep our trails clean, groomed well, and our warm up shacks stocked with wood and ready for use. Many of us work full time, so we don’t have the time it takes to promote the club, advertise, or help it grow the way some other clubs can. We do our best. In the past few years, we’ve faced some challenges. We lost a valued member and friend in a snowmobiling accident. We were forced to move and shutdown a trail we’ve groomed, maintained a...nd loved for more than 20 years. An added downside to that meant moving our Big Foot Hut. (The Big Foot Hut is currently closed and will be re-located shortly. Signs will be moved accordingly) We’ve faced COVID and the challenges it brought to the snowmobile clubs. We watched our flagship hut deteriorate and worked hard to fundraise to rebuild it. It’s coming along, and it has renewed hope for our future. But it’s hard to maintain that hope when our final hut, (which would have been our next project once Mooswa Lake was completed,) was destroyed in an act of vandalism. Yes, we knew it was in rough shape. Yes, we had plans to make improvements. Clubs face vandalism all the time. Windows and walls shot. Signs, which we pay for, destroyed. Stolen. Moved. The people doing it think it’s fun. For us, it’s time we could spend doing the things we struggle to find time to do. For us, it’s money we can’t always afford to spend. For us, it’s volunteer work that’s necessary, but yetnot. Please share the message that these trails, these huts are the result of people loving snowmobiling, who dedicate their time to sharing it with others. Welcoming fellow riders. Hoping to see families enjoy our trails. Hoping to watch the children grow to love the sport we love. The SkiDoo Hut holds many memories for our fellow riders. It’s sad to see it go. It’s devastating to see it go like this.
It’s always a sad day when this notice goes up. But we plan to have a busy summer season!! We’ve got stuff to do!! Exciting things ahead! Stay tuned for announcements and news!
An edited version of the original article will appear in the Discover Lac du Bonnet Magazine...
Shane is riding our trails tomorrow! This is a great cause! Please show your support!
Check out our article in this week’s Clipper!
Work continues as we wait for season to open! Today Chad, Richard, Robert and Joe all volunteered their time to getting the groomer ready, fixing up the clubhouse, and working behind the scenes!! Thank you so much to our volunteers! Each season (and off season!) brings a lot of work and we couldn’t do it without our team of volunteers!
All work and no play! Rob and Richard Lachance are putting a new pan on the groomer. It’s getting close!! Are you ready to hit the trails?
It saddens all true snowmobilers to see this kind of disrespect. Shacks are maintained completely by clubs and their volunteers. Their maintenance is strictly our own; we are not paid to keep them. This year, we are forced, I repeat, FORCED, to close and lock the warm up shacks due to COVID regulations. Should we refuse to comply, we risk heavy fines and potentially a loss of the revenue earned by maintaining trails. It could literally close clubs down. Please know, we w...ant our shacks open. Our members suffer from their closure, too. I hope the vandals are found and charged. This is a slap in the face to all of us.
This will eliminate stuck vehicles on the trails, damaging the grooming and causing risk to snowmobilers!
The government has launched its public engagement on the Manitoba Trails Strategy. The public engagement includes a survey for current and potential trail users, as well as a place for people to share their ideas. We encourage club members to participant in the survey so that the voice of snowmobilers is heard. Please visit the following link to access and/or share the survey: https://engagemb.ca/manitoba-trails-strategy... I hope that you will respond to the survey yourself as well as take the time to share this information with your club members and encourage participation in the survey. By completing the survey, respondents will have the opportunity to share their views on what they value in a recreational trail network, barriers to using trails, and how to get people more involved with using and supporting trails. The survey will be open until January 15th, 2021.
Congratulations to Yvonne Rideout!
