Uncertainty is one of the biggest drawbacks, holding clients back from scheduling a newborn session! . When do I book a session, how to contact, is this really the look I want for my images, will it be awkward?? Newborn sessions tend to have the most asked questions of ALL my sessions that I offer! . Today, I will answer the question "how will my images be delivered?"...this is a great question to ask any photographer! ... . Delivery of images used to be a USB with all your enhanced images on there, but many clients would contact me a few short months later. Why? Either they misplaced the USB, it isn't working they corrupt easily, someone deleted the images or they lost it altogether!! . It happens!! Delivering the gallery on USB also made it complicated to share the images with friends & family members, who are always eager to see the completed gallery!! . Now, clients receive their images through an online gallery! It's super easy to share the link with family & they can view the whole gallery at their own home, regardless where they live! . Clients are also able to instantly download their images through the gallery! It's always encouraged to make a duplicate copy of your images, technology fails occasionally & you don't want to lose these memories!! . Also available through the gallery are printed products!! Want to truly make sure your memories are enjoyed everyday?! Printed products are the way to go!! Clients are able to chose the products they desire, the images to use & make their payments all through the online gallery!! . This year, I am trying to make the process easier for clients to get their memories up on the walls of their home!!! See more

The newest trend in the wedding industry is micro weddings!! To be honest, I am all for this new trend!!! . WHY?? . One reason is bridal couples can let their imagination run wild on how they would like to celebrate their wedding day!! Since micro weddings typically have 50 or less guests, there is fewer opinions, less people to please, less budget requirements & more options when it comes to space to host your wedding!!... . Since the guest list is tailored down, there are so many other venue options available to you...cafes, restaurants, art galleries, barns, parks or outdoor venues! . Love those cool intimate weddings outdoors?? Why not contact a local sugar shack, plan your ceremony outside in your grandparents wooded lot, inquire at your favourite hiking trail or even your own backyard!! . With less guests the options are truly endless!! Plus, the ones that are invited are your closest people..they truly make your wedding day extra special!! See more

Just a timeless newborn image, right?! . Oh boy!!! The patience that goes into a beautiful, simple image such as this one is unreal!! It's a well kept secret in the newborn industry that the most difficult of images are usually disguised as the most straightforward ones!! . If it looks easy, there has been TONS of work on the back end to make it look that way!! In this case, this sweet little lady wasn't interested in taking a nap & had a bad case of an upset stomach!... . Spit up everywhere! The best part about how I schedule newborn sessions is there are never two sessions booked on the same day! This way clients are able to slow down, relax & take the time to make sure they are comfortable! That goes for baby too!! . Generally speaking, I am not a huge crier...among family members they can count on one hand how many times they have seen me cry! . A sappy, sad puppy commercial...nope, not a tear! Wedding ceremony with heartfelt vows...pretty close BUT still no tears! A terrible event that happens in a book...eyes are still dry!! . BUT...... . if I hear the song "Humble & Kind" by Tim McGraw...I am a sloppy, tear stained with a runny nose mess!! Sometimes for a laugh, my children will play that song while I am driving...of course I automatically start to tear up & begin to demand they change the song! (while my bottom lip starts to quiver) . I once made it ALMOST the whole way through the song without breaking down...till the last verse!! . Is there a song that makes you tear up overtime you hear it?? Please tell me I am not alone!! Today is World Nutella Day!!! . This delicious hazelnut spread, totally deserved a "day" for all the joy it brings to so many!!! Ok...it's mostly kids that are super joyful about it but that works right?! . When a jar of Nutella is found in the grocery bag in our house, the excitement is obvious...usually displayed with a high five & a fist pump!! Even had one of them hug me one time!! ... . The end of 2020...what an unusual year it has been!!! . While many have considered this year, the worst ever & are more than glad to be done with it...I have a different view!!! . For me, it's been an awesome year!! Crazy, I know...but it really has!! This year has given me TIME...yup...time to see my business with clarity, time to make some adjustments ON my business, time to spend with my mentor & time to enjoy our family!! ... . I am walking into the new year with some new guidelines for myself, my business & renewed sense of devotion to my amazing clients!! . Thank you to all of my AMAZING clients that have trusted me to capture their memories!!! It's the greatest gift, to work with each and every one of you & I look forward to seeing MANY familiar faces this coming year!! . Today, I will answer the most common question...when should I book a newborn session?? Newborn sessions are the most successful between 7 to 14 days after birth...baby is still sleepy, loves t...o be wrapped & most of the time hasn't quite hit their growth spurt just yet! It's highly recommended that clients contact me 2 months before their due date, I only have space for 3 newborn sessions a month!!! . This ensures that each client receives a 5 star experience & allows me to have plenty of time to clean the studio plus disinfect all wraps & props! . I use your estimated due date to tentatively get you into the calendar, clients have then secured one of the 3 monthly openings! Once baby has arrived, clients message me within hours of baby's arrival!! This is the best part of my job!! Receiving these joyous messages & they usually are accompanied by a photo of their newest family member!!! . We then begin to work on officially getting your session date into the calendar within that 7 to 14 day period. Being a new parent, it's important to give them both a few days to transition into their new roles & allow them to rest once they are home! . With the current lockdown in affect, I am unable to photograph newborn session at the moment!! But currently accepting tentative dates for March & April!! See more

Did you receive a ring for Christmas?? . I did!!! Not an engagement ring but a updated wedding band for our anniversary!! . My husband also gifted me a engagement ring, many moons ago during Christmas...man he has a thing for rings as a gift for the holidays!! ... . I had visited my parents in Northern Ontario for the holidays & we were waiting till I came back to open our gifts to each other. The last gift under the tree was a HUGE box, addressed to me....I eagerly opened it & found a stereo box!! . Cool...a stereo, I mean there was some slight disappointment but it was still a fun gift! Of course, he encouraged me to open the stereo right away & there were seem random items in there, along with another smaller wrapped box! . I think you can see where this is going...inside the wrapped box was...you guessed it...another smaller wrapped box! By this time, I was thinking...that is a lot of trouble to go through for some earrings...but instead sitting there was a ring! Remember it like it was yesterday & not over 20 years ago!! . Congratulations to all the lucky receivers of a ring for Christmas!! You will never forget that moment...even 20 years later!! See more

What a great little break from everything social media over the holidays!!! . Went a little silent over here & it was such a great way to spend Christmas!! Do you keep cards sent to you?? . Believe it or not, I generally do keep cards...holiday cards, birthday cards, Valentine's Day cards, cards that come with flowers or Thank You cards!! . It is such a neat experience looking through the Thank You cards that clients have sent to me during my photography journey!! ... . I always smile at the images (which I created), marvel at how quickly the years go by & laugh at the memory of the story behind the photo!! . Was cleaning my drawer the other day & stumbled across past client cards!! It was a great discovery, that had me smiling all afternoon!! See more

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! . I know it's technically Christmas Eve but just wanted to pop on to wish everyone a VERY Merry Christmas!! . This year has been a challenge for SO many but I will be soaking in this holiday time this year!!! As our children get older, it's such a blessing to be able to slow down & be WITH them!! ... . My favourite part of my job as a photographer, is capturing memories for my clients!! Take these guys here...I have been fortunate enough to photograph their engagement, wedding day, baby #1 (who is the CUTEST little girl), holiday photos & now when they welcome baby #2 to their family!! . It's also such a great feeling, when you walk into their homes & their walls are FULL of photographs from our time together!!! Just fills my heart & puts a HUGE smile on my face!!! . I am beyond blessed to have SO many clients that have turned into friends!! When you look forward to photographing your friends, it doesn't seem like work!!

What are the steps after a wedding day?? Most clients naturally wouldn't have any idea what these steps are..and why would they? . Unless they are a photographer, they wouldn't have a clue!! To do a quick recap... Step #1 is transfer images to my desktop computer, Step #2 is the culling process & Step #3 in the process is Lightroom, Step #4 using the magic program of Photoshop!! . Now, not very single image goes into Photoshop!! As much of a magic bad this program is..., it would be an extremely long process to edit every image in there!! Who has that kind of time?! . When photographers bring images into Photoshop, each image is edited by hand & on a per image basis. This process takes time, skill & knowledge to truly work magic! . When I bring images into Photoshop, there is one of three reasons... either there is fixing to be done in the background or foreground (i.e. take something out), head swap (when Uncle Bill blinks in one photo but everyone else is perfect) or to add a bit more something extra to the image!! . This can be as simple as more colour or more intense as a composite...it's a process that takes time BUT can produce amazing results!! . Such as this image, it was pretty good base straight out of camera BUT Photoshop just added that little extra touch!! See more

Did you know today is National Lemon Cream Pie Day!! . Never knew there were SO many "National days" & so many of them that revolve around food!! (which I am NOT going to complain about!) . Let's have some fun on this Friday!! . If you could have ANY animal as a pet, what would it be?? Would you go traditional as in a dog or car OR would you go wild as in a dolphin or a rhinoceros (yes I gooled the spelling)?? . If you asked my youngest daughter, her unequivocal answer would be a TIGER!! ... . She loves them & I mean LOVES them!! Not only would she have one as a pet, she would probably sleep with them, ride it to school, keep it in the house & try to BE one!! . The big joke in our house is when she gets older & is the founder of some huge Large Feline Rescue operation...not as crazy as Carol Baskin though!! This images was edited by me but taken by Kelsey Lindsay & believe it or not, this was the first time we have worked together!! ... . The day went SO smoothly & thanks to Kelsey, I was able to split myself into two...basically being able to be photographing reception location, while she photographed the cocktail hour!! . We worked extremely well together & it's always wonderful to have someone else to bump location ideas off of, understands the frustration when the sun peaks through the clouds & can swap lenses with!! . Hey, hey!! . It's been a LONG time since I have jumped on here with a photo of myself!! . I avoid it if at all possible!! But I was reminded by a business associate (hey Co. Lab Karine) just how important it is to get on the other side of the camera, not just behind it!!... . She had mentioned that she searched the web for a photo...you know, put a face to the name saying...but she found VERY little!! . So, I set up a swap date with my gal pal Tammy from Tammy Jette Photography & we photographed each other to update our headshots! SO FUN!!! . We spent the almost two hours, goofing off, laughing, trying different posing ideas & playing around with off camera flash! We had SO much fun that we are hoping to do it again, very soon!! . Brrrr...it's getting colder!! . AHHHH!!!! The beginning of winter is always a tough adjustment!! The cold wind, crisp temperatures & frozen fingers is the worst!! . BUT...and a huge BUT...this time of the year can be gorgeous for photos!!! ... . Families with older children, over the age of 12 years...it can be such a beautiful & different background!! Frost on branches, backgrounds full of texture, gorgeous dead grass...yes, I love tall, dead grass!! . What are the steps that go on AFTER the wedding day for a photographer?? The thought just occurred to me today, while culling through images from a beautiful wedding in October! . Most clients have no idea what the steps that go on behind the scenes after the wedding day & unless they are a photographer, they wouldn't have any idea! . Once all the images are transferred to my desktop computer & backed up on two separate external hard drives, step #1 is culling.... . HUH?? What is culling?? I get to sort through all the images taken that day & select the ones that tell the story or make me FEEL something!! But I also chose my favourites...when I mean "favourites" it could be the lighting, the moment, movement of the image, the facial expressions or the posing of the couple! So many favourites!! . For example, today I culled through 4,272 images....both mine & my second photographers images!! That is a lot of images to look through!! . If I was to go through EVERY step, this would be such a long post, so I will post that next week...but for now my cheeks hurt from smiling at my computer screen all morning!! Here is a fact that I never knew, when children see photos of themselves in your home can boost their self-confidence!! It's true!! . I have slowly begun to display our photos on the walls of our home, yes I just started doing this! Personally, it's all the steps before you hand the photo that is the most work! . Step #1 - you have to chose an arrangement & hope it looks good! ... Step #2 - chose a frame & get the right size the first time around! Step #3 - have your favourite images printed Step #4 - make a thousand holes in your walls AND it still doesn't hang straight!!! (or maybe the last step is just me!) . But it's SO worth it!! We enjoy these images every single day!! The compliments that I receive from friends, family & clients when they look at our images displayed is heart warming! . I will then launch into the story behind the image, the ages the kids were, the amount of bribery that was included & how crazy we had to act behind the camera to get them to smile! . The children see how we laughed together, how much their family means to them & the joy we share...even though everyday isn't perfect...they belong to a family! . It's amazing how printed images can bring people together & can start some great stories!! See more

My passion wasn't always for photography!! Sometimes else stirred this love in a totally different way!! . My first love were horses!! Even to this day, I am still in awe of them!! . Though I don't own any right now, it was horses that started my love of photography!... . When I was younger, where I purchased my first horse & also kept him for years...the owner was obsessed with a magazine called Arabian Horse World!! . I also became obsessed with this breed & the magazine!! The images used for advertisements of the stallions, mares, foals for sale & announcing Championships were amazing!! . Through these images, I dreamt of owning my own stable, what the design would of the operation would look like, the championships my horses would win & the amazing photographs I would have taken of my precious steeds!! . Obviously life didn't take me that way, but I still look through my old magazines & marvel at the gorgeous images these photographers would capture!! . The creativity, the use of light, the posing of their subjects & how their images captured moments beautifully...regardless is they captured a running stallion, an action shot from a performance class or a herd enjoying their freedom at pasture!! Those images made you FEEL something!! . That is what drew me to photography, looking at an image & how it made you FEEL something!! A images is something you can hold in your hands & it brings you right back to that moment in time!! . It's an amazing gift I can give to clients ..the ability to make them feel a moment, it's truly special!! See more

Here is a question that I am dealing with in regards to Holiday Mini sessions this year...you guessed it, COVID!! . The question on everyone's mind about booking a holiday session is "What if we are locked down again?? What happens then?" . Believe me, I have the same question!! But, I do have a plan on action IF that happens!... . If there is a "lockdown" by the beginning of Nov. & the sessions need to be cancelled, all $$ given as deposits or full payments will be REFUNDED!! . Yup, I know many business people are thinking..."That's crazy!! I wouldn't refund the deposit!?!" Well...luckily, I am not them & no offence to how they chose to run their biz but that is just not how I roll! . The refund will ONLY be in effect if there is a lockdown & not pertain to clients that consider sessions to be "unsafe". All sessions are photographed outside in a sheltered location, with hand sanitizing & social distancing in effect. . Repeat clients often contact me right after they tell their family the good news!! . It really is never too early to "book" your newborn session! I only accept four newborn sessions a month, clients let me know when their due date is & I can then tentatively book their date for them! ... . What if baby comes early or is late?? No worries!! Some clients wonder about this question once Holiday Mini dates are released, because they sound like they are almost the same thing...but they aren't!! . Holiday Mini sessions are only out once a year before Christmas! They are the perfect session to capture that "holiday card" photo to send to family & friends! These sessions are SUPER quick, 15 minutes in length & are photographed with a the...med set! Think simple & rustic with natural accents..totally my jam! Holiday Mini's are available with a digital or printed option...meaning they both include a selection of digital images but the printed version includes 25 printed holiday cards, that are delivered TO YOUR DOOR!!! . Family mini sessions are available all year around & are double the timeframe than the holiday ones. Images from a typical family session, can also be used for holiday cards but are photographed at my favourite locations or at my clients choice of location.
