We’ve made good progress over the past few months, but COVID-19 still remains a serious threat to our health. As we continue to ease restrictions and safely res...tart our economy, we need to continue to work together to keep each other safe. And today, we’re launching a mobile app that will help us do that. The COVID Alert app will help us limit the spread of the virus by notifying users if they may have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Innovative technologies like this one will help us keep our families and communities safe and healthy. For more on how the app works, check out this video. Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating in Toronto Centre and across Canada! I know that this Eid will be different as we practice physical distancing and wear masks. Eid al-Adha is an opportunity to reflect on the principles of peace, forgiveness, and unity and recommit to the core values of charity and helping those in need. I know this is difficult but I also know we will get through this, together. Wishing you a happy and joyous time. Eid Mubarak!

Yesterday, Toronto Centre lost a generous, compassionate and driven community advocate. To say that Vickie Rennie will be sorely missed would be an understatement. She was a cornerstone of our St. James Town community, who over more than 25 years had a profound impact on countless lives. Through her volunteer organization, the Bleecker Wellesley Activity Network, Vickie provided our most vulnerable seniors with healthy meals, activities, and a community to call their own. I ...consider myself fortunate to have gotten to know Vickie in my time as MP, she was a passionate and relentless advocate who would not rest in her efforts to ensure St. James Town’s seniors had the support they needed. As I’m sure my predecessors, Bob Rae, Bill Graham, Chrystia Freeland, Glen Murray For Greens, and George Smitherman would agree: Vickie was a force to be reckoned with. Thank you Vickie, our community is a much better place because you were part of it. Memories can be shared here: https://dignitymemorial.com//toront/vickie-rennie-9273499

Today, the Prime Minister announced Bob Rae's appointment as Canada's Ambassador to the United Nations. As people in Toronto Centre know very well, Bob's lifelong commitment to public service has had a lasting and positive impact across the country. Congratulations, Bob! I'm looking forward to working with you on the world stage.
