We continue our exploration of coffee grounds use in and around our gardens. With summer quickly approaching we know that all your green thumbs are itching to dig, cultivate and plant! When you use coffee grounds as a fertilizer directly into your soil you are adding organic material. This improves drainage, water retention and aeration in the soil. Microorganisms beneficial to plant growth will also thrive when you add coffee grounds. ... Some people are concerned that coffee grounds will lower the ph level in soils. This is true only if you use fresh coffee grounds. Now, truth be told, most of us will use the coffee grounds to make an excellent cup of coffee before venturing out into the garden. So, those used coffee grounds have a near neutral ph of 6.5 and will not affect the acid level of your soil.
