Tweaks to the First-Time Home Buyer Incentive The federal government is making changes to the First-Time Home Buyer Incentive for prospective homeowners in some of Canada’s priciest real estate markets. The changes will allow eligible buyers in Victoria, Vancouver and Toronto to purchase a home worth up to 4.5 times their household income, up from the current cap of four times annual income. It also raises the maximum household income threshold to $150,000 from $120,000, a move the feds say will make first-time buyers in those cities eligible to buy a home for as much as $722,000 from the current $505,000.

The C.D. Howe Institute’s Monetary Policy Council (MPC) recommends that the Bank of Canada keep its target for the overnight rate, its benchmark policy interest rate, at 0.25 percent at least until October of 2021.

The Bank of Canada today maintained its target for the overnight rate at the effective lower bound of percent, with the Bank Rate at percent and the deposit rate at percent. As the economy recuperates, it will continue to require extraordinary monetary policy support.

CMBA-BC is working with the regulators from the MBRCC to develop and implement a national Code of Conduct for mortgage brokers. Please see the MBRCC press release below. You can let CMBA-BC know your views on the proposed Code. The Mortgage Broker Regulators’ Council of Canada (MBRCC) is working with the Canadian mortgage brokering industry to develop a National Code of Conduct (Code) for mortgage broker professionals.... The Code promotes high standards of business conduct to protect consumers of mortgage brokering services. Once implemented mortgage professionals across Canada will be expected to follow the conduct standards outlined in the Code and each jurisdiction will promote and enforce the Code through its local approach. The Code reflects the common regulatory standards in Canada’s mortgage brokering industry, while recognizing that each jurisdiction has its own regulatory approach for the conduct of business. Mortgage professionals will continue to be subject to all regulatory standards in the jurisdiction in which they practice. The Canadian Mortgage Brokers’ Association (CMBA) and Mortgage Professionals Canada (MPC) are committed to partnering with MBRCC on the implementation of the Code. Once the Code is finalized to reflect association and industry feedback, CMBA and MPC will adopt the MBRCC Code of Conduct. MBRCC member jurisdictions are seeking input on the proposed Code from mortgage professionals across the country. Charmaine is one of CMBA-BC's valued members. Last month, Charmaine Scherk awoke one morning with heart attack symptoms to later find herself mysteriously paralyzed from the chest down. Now, her friends are turning to the public for support.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of our long term members, Marc Lalonde. A foundation in his name has been set up with its mission being to offer ongoing personal, professional, and educational development for young people, and work to reduce stigma associated with depression and mental illness.
