BIG NEWS!! For your mortgage qualifying which will be effective in April. Currently Canada’s mortgage stress test for insured mortgages (this means you have le...ss than 20% down) is based on the benchmark rate (currently 5.19%) or 2% above the mortgage rate you are applying for - whichever is higher. The changes will mean that the stress test will be based ONLY on 2% above the mortgage rate, compared to the weekly median 5 year rate.
