Welcome to Week 2 of our Financial Literacy Money Tips Today we discuss Credit and the importance of having good credit when it comes to winning with your finances. In Canada we have the 2 main credit reporting agencies... 1. Transunion www.Transunion.ca 2. Equifax www.Equifax.ca It is imperative that you pull your own credit reports at least on an annual basis to confirm that everything that is being reported is accurate and reflects what you know to be true. If your score is below 680 you need a serious plan of action, start by: Paying any outstanding collections items Set up Pre-Authorized payments to avoid paying anything late Keep your balances below 20% of available credit wherever possible (this helps with your utilization rate) If your score is above 680, keep up the good work but continue to monitor your credit to ensure you are remaining at your current credit level or trending upwards. Lastly, credit is not static and can always change for the good or bad so it’s important to work on any credit concerns now or you will forever have them, which can cost you LOTS when you’re ready to apply for a mortgage. Let us know in the comment section that you will pull and review your credit Today (visit the sites listed above for Transunion and Equifax) See more
