Moss Park Market 14.11.2020

Starting in 2013 as a progressive grassroots social venture, Building Roots was initially founded in response to a lack of fresh food access and agricultural gr...owing space across Toronto. While developing innovative solutions in some of the city’s lowest income neighbourhoods, we quickly learned that inadequate food systems are a by-product of greater issues in these communities: poverty, social isolation and inadequate attention by the City. Special thanks to our friends over at OMAI Creative for throwing this video together, its a great little intro to who we are :) ** COVID-19 SUPPORT INFO ** In the face of COVID-19, we have been working to ensure no one is left behind, ensuring emergency food provisioning for vulnerable populations, and providing at-home resources for children and families. "we’re just literally trying to take care of people and we’re ensuring compassion is paramount, - Jeff Bierk of ESN (The Star, Sept. 2020) Building ...Roots, in partnership with the Encampment Support Network (ESN), have launched a new series of action days to support our unhoused neighbours who are currently living in the Moss Park Encampments. Thus, Building Roots presents the Support Our Unhoused Neighbours Campaign. READ MORE IN THE LINK BELOW Now, with the help of our friends at Harvey Kalles Real Estate Ltd., Brokerage, we’ve quickly procured funds to provide 100+ sleeping bags and emergency blankets to our unhoused neighbours in the Moss Park Encampment, slated to go out at our next Action Day in November. We know this is necessary as the weather gets cold, and have heard first-hand from folks living in encampments that these supplies will be appreciated and potentially life-saving. Yet we also know that many more supplies are needed still. https://buildingroots.ca//12/support-our-unhoused-neighbo/ ** Donation Information ** If you’re interested and able to donate toward the Support Our Unhoused Neighbours Campaign, supporting the Moss Park Encampment and taking care of those folks in our community who could most use winter warmth, you can do so on our website. Please specify in the message that you would like these funds to be used toward this campaign. If you’re interested in contributing other forms of support or supplies (such as warm meals, skids or plywood, water, warm clothing), please connect with Hannah at [email protected].

Before you check out for the weekend If you have a second, fill out this survey below " The City of Toronto - Your Local Government wants to develop a...lternative options and ways of responding to crisis calls that are collaborative, innovative, and grounded in community needs and desires. To do this, the City needs to understand the public's priorities for what a community-based crisis response could look like. The Toronto Police Service receives an average of 85 crisis calls a day and are often the first agency to respond to mental health, wellness and other calls due to their 24/7 service and 911 emergency line. However, community members have voiced the need to come up with an alternative to police attendance at crisis calls. This survey asks your thoughts on the components of a community-based crisis response program, such as how to access it, who responds, how your personal information is used and a complaints process. For each component, please share what is most or least important to you." They must hear our voices in order to be motivated to make the changes we are asking for, please contribute if you feel comfortable! https://s.cotsurvey.chkmkt.com/
