Motacan Compassion Society 29.01.2022

Well, tomorrow we get chance to go speak with the City of Abbotsford, and a provincially appointed adjudicator, as they are trying to hit us with another $10k fine out of nowhere. We are not exactly sure how they expect a registered Not for profit to pay these fines. They have forced us to close, and threatened to ticket BC Wellness Shop, even though they issued us a business licence. Hopefully, with all the records we have of their conflicting information, and the fact they... finally have zoning bylaws in place for cannabis dispensaries, we can come to some agreement and move forward in a positive manner. Heres to hoping they understand and actually listen to us that this wasn’t a money making scheme. We put our hearts and souls into helping medical patients obtain their medication of choice, in a safe and reasonable way. Wish us luck.

Today is a sad day. The doors to our non-profit medical dispensary are closed and locked. Hundreds of medical patients are without medicine. It’s been a hard, uphill battle that we simply couldn’t keep fighting. Please do not hesitate to email us at [email protected] or send us a message here and we will be happy to answer any questions or concerns.

To our beloved members: We want to thank you endlessly for the continuous support you have provided us since we first opened our Abbotsford doors in February 2017. Because of you, we have been able to keep those doors open and educate people every day about the incredible medicinal benefits of cannabis. Our main goal has and always will be to provide quality medical-grade THC and CBD products to patients in need. For the last 2 years, Motacan has been receiving tickets from ...Abbotsford municipal bylaw, fining the society for operating without a business licence. In the city of Abbotsford, non-profit societies are not required to obtain business licenses to operate. Because we operate provincially as a non-profit society, we have chosen to dispute these fines, as they are contrary to the model we operate within the guidelines of and represent. The city soon began sending fines directly to our landlord for allowing us to operate out of his location. We agreed to pay those fines to avoid any long-term repercussions for him or his other businesses. The on-going challenges we have been facing with the City of Abbotsford have been ever-changing and growing. We are continuously discovering new obstacles and hurdles we must jump through to continue operating in our current location. As of this year, the Motacan Board of Directors are now receiving bylaw fines personally by mail, including previous Directors whom have been long-dissolved from the board. Each month, the average total amount owing for tickets we receive collectively is $4000+, and the number is steadily climbing. These are fees we simply cannot afford every month on top of the important necessity of providing a variety of quality products for our members. We have recently been notified that Provincial Community Safety Unit officers have been visiting unlicensed store-front dispensaries in our area and issuing verbal warnings to seize operations until licenses have been approved by the city or face a potential seizure of goods and products. Until the City of Abbotsford has developed municipal regulations for cannabis storefronts, we will be moving our store online to ensure the highest level of safety of our members, staff, and directors. Our society doors will be closed on May 1, 2019. Going forward, our main focus will be to continue offering the same variety of products at the same compassionate pricing we currently provide in-store. We will be providing detailed information regarding our online store to our members shortly. We highly appreciate your patience and understanding during this change of structure and reassure you that Motacan Compassion Society is not disappearing it is simply evolving. If you have any questions, concerns, or inquiries in general, or regarding this letter, please do not hesitate to give us a call at the store until April 30 2019 at 778-880-7568, or send us an email to [email protected].
