Mothers First 26.05.2021

Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day! We know that the last year and a bit has been a challenging one for everyone, but we see the impact it has had on all of our new moms. Research out of the U of A suggests that moms who experience symptoms of depression has risen from 8-15% up to 40%, and there has been a 43% increase in symptoms of anxiety!... It is so important to know that you are not alone, and to reach out for supports in these challenging times. Make sure to reach out to your health care practitioner, local Addiction & Mental Health Office, or call 211 to learn about the resources available to you where you live. Saying this loud for the moms in the back! #Repost @motherhoodunderstood @download.ins --- We do not measure success in ounces. I stopped breastfeeding after five days. For me, the postpartum depression and anxiety was already setting in and it was too much. And if I’m being really honest, I also hated it. If I had ever went on to have another baby, I would have just went straight to formula right away. I also have friends who loved breastfeeding, who loved the bond it create...d between them and their babies, or who felt like it was the one thing they could give their baby when they couldn’t give much else because of a postpartum mental health illness. I say this because I know the guilt so many mamas still feel when it comes to how they feed their babies. Here we believe in MOM IS BEST. A mom needs to include herself and her mental health in the decision about how she chooses to feed her baby. Both the choice to breastfeed or formula feed or pump or some combination of them should be met with accurate information and support, not unsolicited opinions or shame. Please like and share and tag a mom who needs to read this! See more
