This is funny because it is VERY true. Also not shown, a photographer willing to do just about anything (knock-knock jokes, jumping up and down, making fart noises...) to keep kids' attention while making sure annoyed spouse stays engaged and other spouse's eyes are not bulging with too much exasperation, and a LOT of outtakes. I want you to love your pictures, but I also want you to have a good time while getting those photos!

I'm not a traditional wedding photographer, but if you are planning a non-traditional wedding with elements like a food truck, faeries and dragons, a wandering turkey, and a lot of belly laughs, I am up for the challenge! Sarah and Shawn's sweet and quirky wedding was as warm as the June sunshine, and it was my honour to be a part of their day at Stanley's Olde Maple Lane Farm.

This is so neat! Her work, from what I saw in this clip, is amazing and just the kind of photos that enthrall me. See more of Jenna's beautiful work here: http://hobbsphotography.ca/

Last year when I thought the craziest part of June would be wrapping up another school year (oh sweet naive child, when will you ever learn?) I signed on to take pictures at a sweet, simple wedding at Stanley's Maple Farm. It's this Saturday, and yesterday the bride and groom and some family and friends met to talk through the details and take a few photos. I'd been to Stanley's for maple season in March and had no idea how spectacularly lovely it would be in June. I can't wait until Saturday!

I'm great at keeping my photos that I take with the camera organized, keyworded, backed up. My phone photos are another story! Good tips here. https://getpocket.com//tech-tricks-to-help-you-organize-yo

Each time I have a photo session with this adorable family, I worry that it will not be as good as the previous one. Amazingly, the fourth year in a row was the best one yet! Documentary family storytelling sessions are by far my favourites. <3

My friend fosters for the Adopt Me Cat Rescue where we got our girl Lucy a few years ago. One of the mama cats had a litter a few weeks ago, and I had some fun playing with the babies. Aren't the colours and markings spectacular? These beauties will be looking for a home in a few weeks - get your applications in soon, because they won't last long!

"[Gender reveal parties] also entrench the idea that it’s a boy! should mean something significantly different than it’s a girl. There’s a reason you don’t see a gender reveal party cake cut to expose yellow inside; from the colors we use to the much more significant weight of social expectations and disparate treatment, from the time children are separated as boys and girls, they begin to live very differently. Feminists have long criticized this not the existence of boys and girls, but the unequal ways in which we raise them. Gender reveal parties ingrain exactly what we have been trying for centuries to root out." I see so many photographers in chat forums getting booked for these "gender reveal" parties and I always cringe. This article perfectly explains why.

Did you know that in addition to doing custom portraiture, I also sell prints and wall art? Framed art makes a wonderful gift to say happy birthday, or congratulations on your retirement, or welcome to your new home. These are a few of the ones I've added to my site - which one do you like? (There's more at http://danigirl.ca/photo/fine-art-prints)

"The original, unretouched version of the photo reveals its secrets: An assistant held up the chair on the left side of the frame, wires suspended the easel and the painting, and the footstool was propped up off the floor. But there was no hidden trick to the flying cats or the stream of water. For each take, Halsman’s assistantsincluding his wife, Yvonne, and one of his daughters, Irenetossed the cats and the contents of a full bucket across the frame. After each attempt, ...Halsman developed and printed the film while Irene herded and dried off the cats. " The story of photographer Philippe Halsman capturing this portrait of Salvador Dali for the cover of Life magazine is absolutely delightful! (I'm STILL laughing over "while Irene herded and dried off the cats." Those of you who have had a photo session with my assistant Tristan may understand the degree of my glee over this line!) https://www.artsy.net//artsy-editorial-story-surreal-photo
