You may have seen our post last week for Osteoporosis Month. Well, November is also Fall Prevention month! Winter and ice are coming! Falls can affect individuals of any age, and individuals with Osteoporosis are particularly susceptible to injury due to falls. With physiotherapy, you can improve your balance to reduce your risk of falling. ... Have you ever heard of the Berg Balance Scale? The Berg Balance Scale is the gold-standard test of an individual’s sitting, standing, and dynamic balance. We may use this test during your assessment, to assess your balance before treatment. You are never too young or old to improve your balance! It’s always important to have good balance, no matter your interests or day-to-day routines! Test your balance! How long can you stand on one leg for, without wobbling/twisting? Can you stand tandem (one foot in front of the other) and play catch? If you have any questions regarding your balance and how we can help, contact the clinic today! For more information on Fall Prevention Month 2020, visit https://www.fallpreventionmonth.ca/

November is Osteoporosis Month! Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue, which can lead to increased risk of fracture. How can WE help? Physiotherapy can help individuals with Osteoporosis through strengthening of bone and muscle to reduce bone thinning and reduce the risk of falling and fractures. Physiotherapy for individuals with Osteoporosis would include weight bearing, flexibility exercise, strengthening exercise, postural exercise, and balance exercise. Physiotherapy can help patients with this disease manage their pain and lower the risk of falls, and thus, fractures. How can YOU help? Visit osteoporosis.ca to learn more about the disease, participate in events, donate, and more!
