MONDAY ANNOUNCEMENT We’ve extended the deadline to register for the 2021 Virtual ViaYOUTH Summit to May 17th as the dates have changed for the event to May 28th-30th. We feel that this date better accommodates youth. Our theme is RESILIENCE. The COVID-19 pandemic has been incredibly challenging for many youth across Canada. We hope you’ll join us for a weekend full of inspiration, motivation, connection and community. Registration is only $99.00 and each delegate will receive a special EXPERIENCE box mailed to their doorstep! Stay tuned for special updates on our list of speakers, content and a very special guest that will be joining us at summit! Tag a friend who you feel would be interested in joining us! Tonight is the start of our first virtual ViaYOUTH Summit! We will be joined by youth leaders from across the country! We are also welcoming many guest speakers over the weekend including Elder Verna McGregor: Elder Verna McGregor is from the Algonquin Community of Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, which is approximately 120 kilometres north of Ottawa. Ottawa is part of the Algonquin Nation’s traditional lands. Verna works at Minwaashin Lodge, the Aboriginal Women’s Support Cen...tre located in Ottawa. Services and resources provided by Minwaashin Lodge assist in the empowerment of Aboriginal Women leaving violence. Verna has remained firmly grounded in her community and nation by also being part of the group of traditional Grandmothers (Kokomisag) and Elders. This includes promoting the retention of the Algonquin language and culture, which is so important when addressing issues and connection to the land. We are excited to get started and kick off a motivating, inspiring weekend! #ViaYOUTH
We are very excited to be welcoming a special guest to join us this weekend for the 2021 Virtual ViaYOUTH Summit, Emma Richard. Emma is an illustrator, graphic recorder, and creative facilitator based in London, Ontario, a place also known as Deshkan Ziibi, or Antler River. She connects 'her analytic engineer with [her] seven year-old artist to listen, intuit, and make sense of people’s ideas, and translate them into visual piece.' Using 'graphic recording' she will be cr...eating a visual and artistic representation of our ViaYOUTH summit as she works behind the scenes to listen, observe and create. "Graphic recording is the capturing, synthesizing, and translating of complex ideas into easy-to-understand visuals in real time. It allows participants to literally see what they’re talking about. This can help groups to understand and recall their conversations in a deeper way, integrate the content of their discussions within a broad context, and spot the valuable insights they hold as a collective. The completed visuals can also serve as powerful tools to mobilize knowledge, and to enter into a reflective process after a session has taken place." We are so excited to meet Emma and be a part of her creative work. To learn more about Emma and take a peek at the work she does, visit her website: https://zcu.io/SXrS

Many of you may know today as only the 30th of September, but across Canada this day also signifies something more. Many Canadians have come to associate September 30th with "Orange Shirt Day." A day to remember, honour and support indigenous children who were sent to residential schools. Orange Shirt Day began in Williams Lake in 2013 and has since spread across Canada. It is a day we as Canadians are called upon to listen, learn and to support the Indigenous people of Cana...da and to recognize the significant harm that residential schools have caused across generations. "The annual Orange Shirt Day on September 30th opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. A discussion all Canadians can tune into and create bridges with each other for reconciliation. A day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter, and so do those that have been affected. Every Child Matters, even if they are an adult, from now on. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year. It is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. " We hope you will consider wearing an orange shirt today to honour the survivors and the lives lost Learn more: https://zcu.io/SX92
