Motive, Word, & Pen 31.05.2021

Meet Saleha and Karmen! They’re 2 of our Senior Sales Executives! Saleha Ali is from Surrey, BC and is a 3rd year student at Simon Fraser University; majoring in Criminology and minoring in Business. She is a volunteer for Child Aid International and also serves as a teaching assistant at her community Sunday School. She tutors English and Math to high school students and also works as an accounting clerk. Throughout the years, she has devoted her time to various clubs, no...t-for-profit organizations and has also volunteered at an accounting firm. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, watching Netflix, being outdoors and having bubble tea. As part of the Motive, Word, and Pen team, she looks forward to expanding her network, making new friends, and serving the community; a passion she holds. Karmen Legge was born in Victoria, and grew up loving the West Coast. She is a first year science student at the University of British Columbia after graduating as valedictorian in 2020 at Esquimalt High School. During Karmen’s time at Esquimalt Secondary, she competed as a SLAM poet in Victorious Voices and was active in many social justice clubs. In her spare time, Karmen is a member of the British Columbia Youth Parliament and a volunteer at the West Coast REACH association. She has worked as a cashier and a landscaper, trying to learn as much as she can while still getting paid. Karmen looks forward to learning more about her community through corporate outreach, and improving her writing skills by reading the work done by our incredible editors!

Motive, Word, & Pen 26.05.2021

We‘re so excited to introduce Megan and Jeremy. Megan Crothers lives in Kelowna, BC and is a student at Okanagan College in her second year of the Writing and Publishing Diploma program. She has worked as a freelance editor, a customer experience representative at Indigo Chapters, and is currently at Hansen’s Classic Pizza. She enjoys reading, making art, and baking. Since discovering her passion for the intricacies of language and writing, Megan has begun her journey to...wards becoming an editor. With her position at Motive, Word, and Pen, she will be gaining experience by working with other growing writers to enhance their skills while also supporting their communities. Jeremy Law is from Surrey, BC and is a 3rd year student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, studying Computer-Aided Drafting & Design. He serves as the Tech/Cloverdale Campus Representative at the Kwantlen Student Association, a youth mentor with the Junior Youth Empowerment Program, and a member of the British Columbia Youth Parliament. During his fleeting free time, he enjoys adding to his ever-growing stationary collection and would endlessly binge sushi if he could. He also loves learning languages and dreams of being a polyglot someday. Jeremy is looking forward to working with other passionate youth across the province to promote local, small businesses and donate to charities

Introducing 2 talented Senior Editors: Sam and Raxana! When people ask Sam where she is from, her best answer is "everywhere". Born in Vancouver, British Columbia with a deep rooted love for mountainous terrains, she then chased the Rockies, migrating East to Nelson BC where she fell in love with writing, cooking, painting, gardening and classic folk music. She is happiest in the dirt, or with a pen in hand. Sam looks forward to growing her passion with her team at Motive, ...Word, & Pen! Raxana Sunthareswaran is from Vancouver, BC and is a student at the University of British Columbia who is a 3rd year English Literature student. She has worked as a personal tutor and is now volunteering as a tutor at Atira: a women’s shelter in the DTES. She is also a small business owner who runs her own art shop where she sells anime paintings, prints, and stickers. Raxana was additionally a waitress and dancer but has since moved on from those paths. She loves anime, fashion, and art, and is constantly finding ways in which she can incorporate her passions into her lifestyle and work. Having always been passionate about reading and writing, she is constantly looking to find new opportunities to exercise her love and her skills; most recently trying to start up a book club at the women’s shelter. Motive, Word, and Pen is the best opportunity to mix both her passions and her desire to support her local businesses and community, so she looks forward to it greatly! She is very honoured to have this chance to work with other like minded youth in their pursuit to aid others.

It’s time to meet 2 fabulous Senior Editors! Katie Gaston is from Vancouver, BC and is a third-year student studying English literature and music at the University of British Columbia. She is the current VP Operations for the English Student's Association and works as an editor for the Garden Statuary. Katie is also a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and works as a Royal Conservatory of Music certified piano teacher. She enjoys composing EDM, rockhounding and trying ou...t new brunch places. Katie is driven by the values of Motive, Word & Pen and is eager to use her passion for language in multiple art forms to benefit her community. Amy Ye is a third-year student at the UBC Sauder School of Business, who is specializing in finance. She is currently a teaching assistant for two undergraduate courses, Introduction to Managerial Accounting and Government & Business. Previously, she has worked as an academic mentor, and an admissions and office assistant. In her free time, Amy enjoys getting lost in a good book, conquering real-life escape rooms, and crossing off local cafés from her bucket list. As a Senior Editor at Motive, Word, and Pen, Amy is looking forward to connecting with businesses in her local community while enhancing her writing abilities.

Meet two of our outstanding junior sales executives: Houria and Leo! Houria Afshar Moghaddam is from Richmond, BC and is a Grade 12 student at A.R. MacNeill Secondary School. She is involved with the Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver and has been a part of the Young Investor Program. She currently works as a Sales Associate at Winners Lansdowne and is involved with her school’s R&B Jazz Band. Houria enjoys learning new languages, reading, and playing volleyball. She is than...kful for the opportunity to be volunteering with Motive, Word, & Pen and is hoping to not only give back to the community, but to build new connections and improve her teamwork skills! Leo Head is from Powell River, and is in grade 12 at Brooks Secondary School. He is involved with Students for Change, and the City of Powell River Youth Council, which are both youth lead groups that teach leadership and value service. Currently, he works at a Crossfit gym as a coach, and in the summer he worked at the Powell River Community Resource Center. In Leo's free time, he likes to paddle board and hang out with his friends. In MWP Leo is excited to collaborate with other youth across BC and do work for a good cause.
