Being in healthcare right now is hard. Like, really really hard. When I see people dismiss warnings and guidelines to do what they want, it literally breaks my ...soul. It shows complete disregard for other lives. I have heard so much nonsense. It is not a hoax. It is not a political stunt. If you are of the mindset that, I’ll be fine if I get it, you have missed the point that many people won’t be fine and your actions may directly be responsible for others not being fine. If you are of the mindset that, it only kills old people, well, just unfriend me now, because I have a whole lot of old people I love and care about, and want to keep safe. If you say anything about natural selection or thinning of the herd, again, unfriend me now. You have to be pretty heartless to say such things. If you want to continue to minimize this while my fellow healthcare workers are in harms way everyday, fighting to save people, just unfriend me. If you think this won’t affect you, you are wrong. You will know someone that dies from this. You will need to see a doctor that isn’t available because they are out sick or even dead from caring for people with COVID. You may need a surgery that you can’t have because all non-emergent surgeries are not being scheduled for months. You may have to miss an important screening test that could pick up cancer because offices have had to stop seeing patients. You may end up intubated by someone who hasn’t intubated a patient since med school, or have your vent managed by a doctor that doesn’t routinely manage ventilators. Or you may not even get a vent because there aren’t any available. If you are pouting that you have to give up your beach vacation, birthday party, or whatever other event you had planned, stop. Just stop. There are healthcare workers right now that are risking their life. Staying at home is the easy part. So just do it.
