The chill is in the air, the leaves are falling and the season has shifted to eating fall crops. We have lots of local produce and products if you’re looking to cook a holiday or harvest dinner this weekend!
We could not be more excited and proud of The Wandering Root for her new venture! Thanks for feeding us today.
Phyllis (Jack) Webstad told her story of her first day at residential school when her shiny new orange shirt, bought by her grandmother, was taken from her as a six-year old girl. The annual Orange Shirt Day on September 30th opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. A discussion all Canadians can tune into a...nd create bridges with each other for reconciliation. A day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter, and so do those that have been affected. Every Child Matters, even if they are an adult, from now on. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year. It is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. I cannot express how grateful I have been to the whole Flexpeditions team this summer. The kids camps they have put on this summer have been fun, full of activities and so professional. They really planned well to adapt and adjust to keep everyone safe. In a time when the world has been crazy, this phenomenal group of people have made everything feel normal as possible which in turn, has allowed our kids to be kids. Thank you just doesn’t seem enough! If you’re looking for something for your kids to do next week there is still room in some of their camps. If this year won’t work for you, I encourage you to check them out for next year.
I’m super grateful to have new art on the wall. I appreciate the talented Lisa who parted with this beautiful piece! Check out her art at zettodesign.com
Good morning. As we all continue to move forward and adjust, I feel our job is to collectively work together. We are all trying to make the best decisions we can while trying to make everyone’s safety and well-being a priority. Our plan is to remain open for in store shopping. This however requires a team approach from the community. We ask that you do not shop if you’re feeling sick. If you are sick and really need supplies please reach out and we can arrange curbside pic...k up or possibly deliver it to you. We ask that you are efficient with your time while shopping in the store. Lastly we ask you to wear a mask in the store, keep your distance and sanitize your hands before shopping. All the staff in the store are wearing masks and will continue to take measures to keep you safe too. We know everyone holds different opinions and comfortable levels pertaining to COVID, we respect everyone’s beliefs and opinions. Regardless of what we all think or feel, the fact is that we are a small business with a small but mighty staff who wishes to not have to shut down. So we are asking you to work with us to help make this possible because we like coming to work and seeing you! Thank you for continuing to support Mountain Goodness and being amazing customers we are grateful for. See more
This fantastic pasta we are now carrying is from @cowichanpasta. What makes it super amazing is that the pasta is made from stone ground ancient grains such as Spelt, Emmer, Khorasan and Red Fife. All ingredients that go into the pasta are sourced from BC. The grains for the pasta are grown in Armstrong and Qualicum Beach. . . - Cowichan Pasta... #supportlocal #revelstoke #supportsmallbusiness #itspastatime
At the end of each week, I like to reflect and take inventory. I feel this allows me to prepare for the next week and to continue working on being the best person I can be. If this week had a theme, it is that kindness always wins and you will never regret being kind.
Have you ever tried Bean Curd, also known as Tofu Skin or Yuba? Bean Curd is produced from Soybeans. It has a chewy texture and has a creamy taste which goes nicely in salads, stir fries and soups. The description might sounds weird but it is delicious!
We are excited to be now carrying @okanaganselect salmon products. Okanagan Select is produced from Sylix sustainable fisheries that are wild salmon stocks focusing responsible management. The salmon comes from local BC lakes and Rivers which are Ocean Wise approved.
Check out this new item we are super excited to have. @abokichilife chili miso is an amazing addition to almost anything you can think of.
Have you heard about the The Tum Tum Farm and Forest Discovery camp? This camp is running each week this summer in Revelstoke. I encourage you to check out this great camp https://tumtumfarm.ca/
Can one ever have too much good chocolate? If you ask the Mountain Goodness team, you will get a unified no. We are excited to now be supplying @sirenechocolate This fantastic company is located in Victoria. They make delicious and unique bean to bar chocolate. Here is some information about Sirene ... At Sirene we start with a cocoa bean, and make chocolate out of it--but to tell the full story, it actually starts quite a while before that. The process really starts when we identify a farm we are interested in working with. We look at a variety of factors including whether we like the taste (ie quality) of the beans, whether we can pay the farmer directly, what working conditions are like at the farms and more. We consider our relationship with the farms as a working relationship between two small businesses: the small business that is Sirene, and the small business that is the farm. Equals working together trying to deliver the best chocolate possible to our customers. See more
The abundance of fresh vegetables is something to look forward to each year. The first is the broccolini is so delicious. My favourite way to enjoy it is grilled with a bit of olive oil, a sprinkle of sea salt and some thinly sliced garlic. Simple perfection on a plate.
We are very excited to have a new farm in Revelstoke contributing to the incredible food we have available locally. @firstlightfarm just dropped off some freshly picked greens, baby kale and basil this morning. They also have more produce available which you can get by contacting them directly.
