A bit about Mountain Addicts owner & guide Melissa Makepeace. . I was a late bloomer and didn’t learn to ski until after university at the age of 23. In 2008 I started working with the Fernie Ski Patrol and did a season in NZ in 2009 as well. In 2013 I started tail guiding at @islandlakelodge which is a cat-skiing operation in Fernie, and in 2014 I completed the Canadian Avalanche Association Level 2 course. I was really lucky to have amazing mentors and friends who encourag...ed me to pursue guiding certification and in 2016 I completed the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides Apprentice Ski Guide program. After completing the ACMG ASG program I spent a winter ski touring guiding in Japan, and also got my first few weeks of heli-ski guiding experience @lastfrontierheli where I now work every winter. I have also done some guiding for the Alpine Club of Canada and other ski touring operations. I really enjoy teaching the @avalanchecanada AST curriculum and started Mountain Addicts in 2016 and now teach about 100 students every year in Fernie. Mountain Addicts has 3 instructors, so I don’t teach them all! Getting out with women is a definitely one of my passions. I volunteered with the Fernie Girl Guides this past winter, teaching companion rescue. I’m also an ambassador for Icelantic Skis and look forward to the annual Women’s Weekend. I am also supported by @rab.equipment @elevationshowcase and @xspexworld Looking forward is a little daunting right now, but I hope to teach courses and get out ski touring guiding in Fernie more this winter. I’m also working hard toward the final exam this coming December.

What a trooper! Josh may not have experienced the legendary Fernie powder, but he certainly was all smiles, all day. Josh kept the guide entertained singing away on the up-track near Mammoth Head today #skifernie #ferniestoke #tourismfernie #skiuphill #earnyourturns #adventureski #backcountry #backcountryskiing #skitour #skitouring
