Mountain Athletic Therapy 13.01.2021

I grew up in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in a small town. Every day, the mountains reminded me that everyone has mountains to climb at their own pace. Since getting back to 100% after an injury is such an unpredictable journey, I thought Mountain was a good representation of this struggle. Like or follow me on Facebook or head over to Instagram and follow @mountainat to find out just what Athletic Therapy is all about Huge shoutout to Alexandra Blackwell for creating this logo

I hope everyone has had a wonderful and quiet holiday. Thank you for allowing me some space to think, goal set and fight the recent restrictions. As my clients know, I am currently not allowed to help you reach your goals or manage your acute or chronic pain. Athletic therapists have been fighting tirelessly to be allowed to return for you guys. However, we still haven’t heard anything. How can you help? 1)Write a letter to the MLA and Health Ministers explaining how I hav...e helped you and why we should be allowed to continue working. Alternatively, you can use this template: https://drive.google.com//1UQtkBx1YZUESqu4PqfJlkCtVL/view Emails are: [email protected] & [email protected] 2) Sign the petition http://chng.it/P29XgvyPLx Thank you again for all of your support. I hope to continue to work with you towards your goals soon. I miss all of your smiling faces

Happy New Year! Thank you all so very much for all of your support throughout this challenging year. You guys have made it more bright and have given me something to look forward too. As much as it was challenging, 2020 came with some amazing changes. I joined the The Calgary Centre for Health and Competitive Edge teams. Made new friendships and love my coworkers. Cavallo Pulse Therapy and I partnered up to offer new and exciting things to horse and riders. I was forced to... take a break and work on myself more than ever before. And for all of this, even if It has been a wild ride, I am so very grateful for 2020. Bring it on 2021

Shoulder Internal Rotation!? Internal rotation involves the motion of reaching for your bra clasp or pulling your wallet out of your back pocket. It’s not a common movement but in certain sports, it is required to produce power. For example, the follow through on a throw, pushing yourself up to get out of the pool or the motion of muscle ups all involve Internal Rotation! It also acts to stabilize your shoulder in a lot of other movements Why do we loose this range!? Poor... posture has our shoulders rounding forward and our chests tightening. In a lot of cases, this causes the shoulder to move forward every-time we do internal rotation. This can cause a lot of pain in the bicep and other structures in the front of the shoulder Demonstrated is one of the many techniques I use, along with a series of exercises to open up the chest and promote more movement through the shoulders! We have been working over the course of 2 months to get her this far without her whole shoulder rotating forward!! Big win Stay tuned for more information on shoulder movements! See more

NEUTRAL SPINE Neutral spine is the ability to find a happy medium for your body between flexion and extension. It allows our body to stack itself correctly for efficient movement and control. It allows our legs to sit silently and our seat to be soft and supple throughout our ride. REMEMBER: a soft, straight lower back is your objective to avoid tension in your lower body. - TRY IT... Rock your pelvis back and forth in the saddle with no stirrups (as shown in the picture) until you find a medium between your extremes. Then ask your horse to walk and maintain this posture. Notice how relaxed your legs are and how little you can feel your back! #backpainawareness #exercises #riding #ridingtips #saddle #saddleseat
