Come and join Deanna this Wednesday 12pm at Trout Lake Park for an hour of Vinyasa flow focused on the Air Element. Previous classes were focused on how to better connect to the fire element and earth element. Next up is the water element, or in Sanskrit Jala. The water element is associated with the second Chakra (Svadhisthana), or Sacral Chakra. ... Water nourishes the body and connecting to it during your yoga practice will allow you to strengthen and relax your hips, release tension, and become more flexible and fluid. Purchase a pass online & simply show Deanna proof of payment upon your arrival. 6 class passes are also available for this series! @tomlajones

Written for the sake of honesty and transparency, in hopes of learning more to fight both racial injustice as well as misunderstood cultural appropriation. Ok - so I will start by introducing myself. Hi. I’m Jamie. My background is in ballet & I have a deep passion for movement & meditation. I am the coordinator of the MMY classes around Vancouver. I have taken one 200-hr teacher training in Calgary, AB. The rest of my knowledge comes from my dance training (purely physical k...nowledge) as well as my reading of books, listening to podcasts, and learning from other yoga teachers - both white and POC (theoretical, historical, spiritual, and physical knowledge). I am incredibly interested in learning about cultures other than my own (my ethnic background is Welsh). Since taking my first yoga class, I have been vastly interested in learning more about Indian cultures. I acknowledge, however, that there is so much I simply don’t know, & I know also that no matter how hard I study, I may never truly understand (nor should I expect to... I’m Welsh-Canadian). When I started MMY, it was a small humble offering to my parents’ home town in the Similkameen Valley. This year, we have simply expanded in Vancouver because the platform was readily available, and I came across some pretty incredible people to join me in teaching outdoors (maybe you’ve met some of them in your classes!) Because of all that is being brought to light with BLM, I believe it is an interesting time for the yoga community as well - or at least it should be. This year I, like nearly everyone else, have been forced to acknowledge white privilege as well as mass & systemic racial marginalization through BLM. Because of this, I have decided to encourage discussion beyond that between just my friends & I. My goal is to continue to grow as a community, humbly & with intention. I believe that we each have beautiful gifts to share, but we must be aware of the impact we have in the yoga community as we teach & guide classes under the name ‘yoga,’ a practice that dates back 10,000 years & entails life long study far beyond just movement of the body. I also believe that learning from other cultures & deeply investing in diversity & equality - not only in yoga, but everywhere - is a great start to acknowledging what appropriations we might be feeding into, so for now, this is what I’m committed to doing. Yoga for me has always been lighthearted - but with simplisties and complexities intertwined, I vow to take a closer look at what & why I teach what I teach. LAST NOTE: this post only speaks on behalf of myself, and not on behalf of other teachers teaching around the city - each with different ethnic backgrounds, different trainings, etc... and MOST of whom are actually far more experienced than I haha!

First of all, thank you to everyone who has bought a pass this summer. We teachers are all so grateful for your presence and dedication to our classes. A physical sense of community is so valuable during a time like this, and we are so thankful to each and every one of you for being a part of ours! Our yoga 'season' is more than half way through, with 6 weeks of classes left to go. This means, if you're loving our weekly classes, but haven't purchased a 6-class pass yet, th...is week would be the last week that it would make sense to do so :) ~ unless you are able to make it to different classes in different parks!... (our passes are applicable to any MMY class). This pass is $55 - however, if you are inclined to share your outdoor yoga experience with a friend, we are pleased to share a 20% discount with you (bringing your passes down to $44 each - that's $7.33 per class!!). In order to receive this discount, please like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram, and tag your friend in our most recent Instagram post. We will dm you discount the code. As we continue to work on unlearning, re-learning, and extending what help we can, we are pleased to continue offering donations to the Vancouver Black Therapy and Advocacy Fund. The goal of this campaign is to address the lack of Black therapy resources, advocacy, and mental health support in the Vancouver Lower Mainland land of the Coast Salish peoplesSwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:l and Slílwta/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xmkym (Musqueam) Nations. We will continue to donate 10% of all profits to this fund until the end of the season (end of August). Thank you for all the support! Much love + namaste - MMY crew @ Vancouver, British Columbia
