The other day we were able to get up close to a bee. It was very neat to see some details that we normally can’t see. We talked about what bees eat and the children lovingly collected different flowers for him to feast/sleep on.

A friend posted this today. I completely agree that spending time in nature is important. At daycare we spend about four hours a day outside some days more and some days not even. I’m going to take the 1000 Hours Challenge and actually track how much time we spend outside. https://www.1000hoursoutside.com//children-should-be-outsi

#Repost @southbaymommyandme @southbaymommyandme (Bryana) and @latinxparenting (Leslie) teamed up to bring you this post on Childism.... Childism is a PROBLEM. We are defining Childism based on Elisabeth Young-Bruehl's book, "Childism: Confronting Prejudice Against Children." Here's the thing: parents aren't actively and consciously prejudiced against children. Instead, we are socially and culturally conditioned to behave in prejudiced ways against children. For example, we talk about children in front of them as if they aren't there. We expect children to be obedient. We hit children when we think they are bad, even though if we were to hit an adult, it would be considered assault. We dismiss children's lived experiences. In fact, many times we laugh at a child who is hurting. We believe children should be seen and not heard. We force our children to hug, kiss, and interact with people who they don't wish to engage with, because we're worried about hurting grandpa's feelings. Childism is one of the worst forms of oppression, since the lifelong consequences of feeling dismissed, repeatedly hurt, and routinely misunderstood are grave. We've got to become ANTI-CHILDISTS and support child rights as human rights. Here's how we achieve this: Heal from your childhood wounds. Practice seeing and accepting your child for exactly who they are. Respect your child's autonomy. Model for them how you'd like them to be in the world. Call out Childist assumptions, and demand that a child's humanity be dignified. Did you experience Childism as a child? See more

The universe intervened the other day when I found this CD. Today we listened to it for the first time and had so much fun dancing and singing along.

This article is a few months old but a great reminder that Covid-19 is still out there. Together we can stop its spread. Keep outings to a minimum, maintain six feet distance, and wash your hands frequently. If your children are showing any signs of illness please stay at home.

The health and safety of the children in my care and my community is my utmost concern. I hope you maintain your health and happiness in the coming weeks.
