As a mom to two boys, I know I have an important part to play in helping to ensure that all genders are treated fairly and with dignity. This doesn’t happen passively, but having continual conversations about fairness and quality, and pointing out when there is room for improvement. I #ChooseToChallenge gender biases. ... I like to talk to my kids while they watch cartoons, and challenge them on some of the roles that are portrayed by different characters. Who is the leader in this situation? What qualities make a good leader? Who was being strong? Do we think that anyone can be strong in different ways? What are some of the different jobs that the characters have? Do you think Mommy or Daddy could do that job? I’m not sure how much is sinking in yet for my four year old, but I know that the earlier we start challenging gender biases the larger impact it will make in the long run. I would love to hear your tips on talking to your kids (especially the big ones) about gender biases!

It’s amazing to look back at this photo and see just how much has happened in less than a year, all while raising this tiny human and his older brother. A reminder to focus your time and energy on social media on the things we CAN control, and let go of those we CANNOT. Its so easy, and often frustrating to get caught up on trying to beat the algorithm, or focusing on getting more followers, more likes and more comments. You wouldnt expect climbing a 6000-foot mountain to be easy, so why do we expect overnight results on social media? There are lots of programs and experts out there that preach instant viral success. I have yet to ever come across any that actually work. What does work? Showing up consistently day in, and day out for your community and putting one foot in front of the other, until you find your flow with your audience. . If you turn around and give up at the halfway point, youll never know what you could have achieved by sticking with it. Make a plan this week and post on your social media channels once per day. See on Day 7 how your results compared with Day 1 and then take your best content results and make a plan for the following week.
