This is a perfect example why the Bala-Calfa was created and how it saves us both time & money!! This calf was born sometime between our last night check at 5:3...0am and 7:00 when I found it. The temperature at 7:00am was -23 Celsius. The calf was up and active but her ears were already starting to freeze. Instead of dragging the calf into the barn, and maybe having to fight with the cow to get her in as well, I was able to quickly put a Bala-Calfa on to help save her ears and leave her on the bedding pack. Within 15 minutes the calf was drinking(with the hood on), I had freed up time to put out other fires and the calf’s value at the mart won’t be reduced because of frozen ears. With the temperature warming up to -6 Celsius this afternoon, I will be able to pull the hood later this morning and not have to put it back on! Well due to Covid I have had a challenge for the show supply business and the opportunity has come to expand into a store front here in Creston as a base and I will still have my Weaver trailer that can attend different events. This also gives me a greater ability to service customers here in Creston and other areas. I am ramping up for Christmas (yes Christmas) since it will be upon us in two short months, this time will go by really fast for all of us. I will post an opening day as soon as I can which I am hoping will be quite soon.
