The humans are out at the market today and petunia is at home doing her work too! She’s sooo pregnant she’s due any day. She was so happy and busy making up her bed with fresh bedding as we anticipate new babies coming any day. It looks like there are so many in there! She’s such a good mom

Good morning Caroline!! We are at the farmers market today until 2, and guess what?? WE HAVE BACON rind-on maple smoked. It’s so good that our sausage guy has already spoken up for some when our next batch of piglets is ready this fall!! Come and get yours because once it’s gone we are all out until fall !!

Thankyou so much Canmore! It was great to meet you, and we will see you again soon in a few weeks. There’s a storm blowing in tonight, we got all the hatches battened and animals fed and tucked in just in time. Time to rest and restock, and then we will be back at it tomorrow!

Wow. Wow. Wow. That feeling when an idea just comes full circle. Last year we bought a used office rig trailer and we transformed it into a butcher shop. We had so many adventures along the way. There was a whole heck of a lot of praying and doubting too. We’ve passed our inspection, and are just waiting for the final bit of paperwork but we are ready to introduce you very very soon to Mount’s Meats. Tyler’s meticulous attention to detail is something you can only get in a s...mall operation like ours. He spent a lot of time working in a small town butcher shop in his youth. We now have the ability to offer you a totally customized experience, whether you’re buying by the cut, wholesale or whole animal. (When I met him I was very impressed by his gift wrapping abilities ) Do not for any reason give up on something that you think is a good idea. Don’t get stuck wondering about the what if’s.

On today’s fun fact: bison have very small udders compared to dairy or beef cows.. even pigs! (You’d be hard pressed to even see them without a zoom lens or binoculars, under all that fluff!) Bison cows do not produce a huge volume of milk, it is a tiny amount at a time, and so jammed pack with nutrients it’s probably more like pure cream. In so many ways, Bison are really much more similar to wild things like deer and moose than they are to domestic bovines. I’m sure somew...here there are people milking bison but there’s no way we would try that we do a lot of crazy things around here but that’s not one of them. They are just so wild. They should stay that way We look forward to seeing you on Thursday at Canmore, Friday at Sylvan Lake, Saturday at Red Deer and Bentley. For those who don’t know, we’re building a cordwood house. The two of us. With some help from friends and family. We’re on year 3. We hope to be moving in sometime next year, or the next. It doesn’t matter I’m just going to make a mushy post about my partner... he is one of the most amazing people I know. When I first met him he showed me this dream he had to build his own home. Everyone says building a house together is one of the most difficult things you’ll do.... This is the house that love built. every day we work at it, little by little it takes shape, it grows. Kind of like us. Some days the mortar mixes perfectly and the logs lay plumb. On others, the rain drives us indoors, some days the sun roasts us to a crisp. Some days we are just too tired to fight for it any more, but it will always be What we built. #homestead #cordwood #love #valentine
