Meet Erin Tomlinson, a Spring 2021 Valedictorian. Originally from Minasville, NS, Erin is graduating with a Master of Arts in Education (Lifelong Learning). She... is also a familiar face to many on campus due to her role as Manager of the Centre for Academic Advising and Student Success. This is Erin’s third time graduating from MSVU, and second time serving as Valedictorian. As part of a Q&A, we asked Erin what advice she would give her pre-MSVU self: I would tell myself that my rural, working-class background and the experiences and knowledge I have gained are valuable and can be a source of confidence. Check out Erin’s full Q&A at: https://www.msvu.ca/meet-valedictorian-erin-tomlinson/ #MSVUGrad2021 #MSVUProud

Meet Alexandra Bromley, one of two MSVU Spring 2021 Valedictorians! Alexandra, who is originally from Richmond, BC, is graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Ho...nours) in Applied Human Nutrition. We asked Alexandra what advice she would share with her pre-MSVU self as part of a Q&A: If I could share one piece of advice with my younger self, it would be this: talk to your professors and ask for what you want and need. In my first degree, I never spoke to my professors or went to office hours, which I regret. I would struggle through assignments and never ask for help. However, in this degree, I really made an effort to get to know my professors. Doing so allowed me to improve my grades dramatically, I learned more, and I was given more opportunities. Third wave getting you down? You need some #PetsOfMSVU! Meet Ashley Brewster, Office Assistant in the Dean’s Office, and her dog Skyler and cat QiuQiu. Skyler... is a sweet, fun loving girl who is always up for an adventure but also loves to cuddle. QiuQiu prefers to nap all day and he is the naughtier pet out of the two. Pet’s nicknames: Sky & Quiball Pets’ ages: Skyler is 2 and QiuQiu is 4 Type: Dog (Australian Shepherd) and cat (Ragdoll) Do you have any other pets (not listed above): A snake named Nagini Pet’s favourites: Skyler loves every person and dog she meets. She enjoys going on hikes and romping around at Camp Bow Wow with her puppy pals. QiuQiu’s favourite thing is napping in places that Skyler can’t bug him and trying to nibble on my plants when I’m not looking. Does your pet have any special talents or charming traits or quirks: Skyler & QiuQiu both have a special talent of losing so much of their hair on the floor that I have to vacuum every single day. What’s it been like spending tons of extra time at home with your pet: Amazing! I wouldn’t have gotten through all of this extra time at home without them. You can follow their antics on their instagram page @skyandqiu Find more #PetsOfMSVU at https://www.msvu.ca/pets-of-msvu/

A message from Dr. Ramona Lumpkin, MSVU Interim President and Vice-Chancellor: May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada and was recently proclaimed in Nova Scoti...a. This year’s theme, ‘Recognition, Resilience, and Resolve,’ highlights the importance of learning more about the history of Canadians of Asian descent and celebrating their many contributions to the growth and prosperity of our province and our country. This theme also encourages us to continue to come together to stand up against all forms of anti-Asian racism and discrimination. The Mount has benefitted immensely from the many contributions students, faculty and staff of Asian descent have made to our campus community over the years. Without them, we would not be the university we are today. Learn more about Asian Heritage Month: https://www.canada.ca//cam/asian-heritage-month/about.html

Meet Dr. Amna Mirza. Amna joined MSVU as Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education in July 2020. She holds a PhD in Developmental Psychology from Wilfrid ...Laurier University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Jan Frijters in the Department of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University. I love Mount Saint Vincent. I love it from afar because I haven’t been on campus so much. I’m very much looking forward to this fall to have more hallway interactions and conversations with my colleagues on a daily basis. Being here is great. Everyone has been so loving, caring and thoughtful and made my transition to Nova Scotia much easier and smoother than anyone would have thought.
