Dear Families, On March 18th we held a Special General Meeting for the society members to vote on the future of Mount Seymour Preschool. It has been confirmed that the preschool will be open for the 2021/2022 school year and the Board of Directors will continue to search for a new location for the 2022/2023 school year and beyond.

Dear Families, Re: Mount Seymour Preschool Must Move or Close Its Doors After over 50 years Mount Seymour Preschool needs to move locations or close its doors.... The United church needs their indoor space back. The church has been very generous over the years and has even held off on this expansion as long as they could. The church needs more space on their grounds for their volunteers and their Thrift Shop. The Thrift Shop has become the primary outreach calling for Mount Seymour United Church and it touches so many people: from volunteers; to those who recycle; to those who need affordable goods: to contributions they can make to other organizations; and to First United Church, with the work that is done. We were notified Thursday February 25th of the termination of our lease and have been given till the end of June 2022 to vacate the space. This could allow us to operate for another school year. Next steps will be a huge undertaking and as such we are looking to you our members, preschool families and our local community for help in our next steps. We can’t do this alone. We will be announcing a meeting by email in the coming days, to be held virtually and not sooner than 14-days from when it is sent, to decide the fate of the school. The choices to be voted on will be: 1) Find a new location and move out by June 30th, 2022, or 2) Shut the school down at the end of the time allotted us which would be June 2022, or 3) Shut the school down at the end of this School year in June 2021. The reality of this news and uncertainty is that we may lose families and educators. We will be getting a new administrator and we will lose some of our already too small board of directors in October. I myself will finish my term this year and would need a replacement for the President's role. We will need to hire help to champion the move if we decide to carry on. Before the special meeting of our members, here are some things to think about: Can you join the Board of directors to help out? We have been running with four directors when there could be up to ten. Can you help form or join a committee to take on some of the responsibility of what is to come if the decision is to find a new location? Do you have any ideas on a new location? Does anyone have experience with something like this who could be paid to help with the location search, move and set up? If you have ideas on how to help, please come prepared to share them with us at the Special Meeting. We will be opening registration for the 2021/2022 school year starting in September on January 25th. We will be hosting an in person Open House by appointment only as well as preparing a Virtual Open House. The preschool is back in action and we couldn't be happier! We had a wonderful week getting to know you and your children and we look forward to creating many more memories with you all!!

Our summer garden is growing! What is growing in your garden? Note that the remaining carrots are not ready for picking. Maybe in a week or two Lettuce and snap peas are ready to be picked!

We have a few spots available in each of our programs starting in September (morning 3's, morning 4's and afternoon 3/4's)!!!! We have created our COVID-19 Policies and Procedures based on the BC CDC and WorkSafe BC's recommendations for child care settings. These policies and procedures will be followed next year in order to keep children, families, educators and the community healthy and safe.
