Moving Forward with Rysa Kronebusch 13.11.2020

On December 16th, 2019 after over a year working on this project, our union MoveUP walked the talk, what we want for ourselves we want for ALL!. MoveUP publicly endorsed the Decriminalization of Sex Work Movement. The first link is an article in the Georgia Straight and the second link is to our web page where at the bottom of MoveUP's article is a link to the petition. 2020 is the year where it will be recognized that Sex Work is WORK https://www.straight.com//bc-union-moveup-declares-its-sup https://moveuptogether.ca//moveup-announces-support-for-d/

Earlier this week MoveUP announced support for decriminalization of sex work and last night VP Rysa Kronebusch was invited to speak about this on Union Made Van...couver Co-op Radio CFRO with host Kathy Boyce. Decriminalization sex work doesn’t mean condoning a world that leads them to the streets, comments Rysa. Sex work is work and by decriminalizing sex work it helps with health and safety and other basic human rights we all enjoy. Take a listen: https://moveuptogether.ca//20/12/RysaOnUnionMade-Dec18.mp3

I haven't written on the facebook page for awhile but I have something important to write about. Our Union #MoveUP publicly announced their support of the Decriminalization of Sex Work. I am extremely proud of MoveUP and our Executive Board and Council who voted in support of this movement. In writing this, I would like you to understand, this took a year to come to this decision, it did not happen overnight. My approach was for MoveUP to get off the fence and make the de...cision to support the decriminalization of sex work or not, but to at least decide. It pissed me off that when talking to others about supporting this movement, I would get "oh this is very controversial" We are activists our work is nothing but controversial. I provided extensive information, to our Table Officers, our Executive Board, we had someone come to our Board meeting from the Pivot Legal society to provide more information. Our executive did research on their own. This process took a year from the time I brought this to the table. Our union did their due diligence to ensure we were informed and educated! We as a union decided we need to stand with this movement, we could not sit on the fence any more. Sex work is work and as activists we need to ensure every worker has the right to Health and Safety at the workplace! this is the article in the Straight, https://www.straight.com//bc-union-moveup-declares-its-sup What can you do? Please take just a moment to click on this link go to our URL and fill in the petition https://moveuptogether.ca/safesexwork

The power in the debate truly shows the integrity of the person! The power to vote shows we heard! As an activist and as a unionist, I will vote for those who respect me as a self identified female person, who has choice!

Apart of the duties as VP Utilities, is to attend the Inter Union Gas Conference, this year the conference was in Orlando. I gleaned so much information from other unions who work in and around natural gas. The issues they are having with government and also the issues around collective bargaining. The theme this year was around safety, I have included a link to Eric Giguere story take a moment to read about his accident and extremely fortunate to be alive. https://www.safetyawarenesssolutions.com/

Sitting at the Airport flying to Toronto, then off to Orlando for the (IUGC) Inter Union Gas Conference, my first time attending should be very informative!
