#Repost from @drpatrickb with @regram.app ... Now I’ve touched on Sauerkraut before, but shout out and photo credit to @carleeait, Doctor of Chiropractic and founder of @movement.mechanic She’s doing it right, check her out. : ... If there’s one food that can change your overall health, it's sauerkraut. : Sauerkraut plants beneficial bacteria in your gut and then simultaneously feeds them, and various studies continue to shed light on the many benefits associated with healthy gut flora including an improved immune system, favourable changes in body composition, and even positive improvement in mental health disorders. How so? : The gut actually initiates conversations with the brain about how it's doing, and the brain in turn has deep empathy with the gut. In other words, the gut is telling the brain about the kind of day we're going to have, not the other way around. : Want a happy day? Have a happy gut. Want to train like a fiend and have that training be effective? Have a happy gut. Want to have a happy gut? Eat sauerkraut. : Also, I’ve mentioned the following before, but it’s important I reiterate a few caveats: ~ Only buy sauerkraut from the refrigerator section of the grocery store. ~ If the package reads "pasteurized," express your annoyance by throwing it against the wall. ~ Store sauerkraut in the refrigerator when you bring it home. ~ Don't cook your sauerkraut because it kills the bacteria. : Give yourself a month of adding sauerkraut to your meals once or twice a day and tune in to your digestive system, the way you think, and perhaps even your body composition. : // Choi, Charles Q, "Probiotic Bacteria May Help Treat Depression," LiveScience website, Aug. 29, 2011. // Dolgin, Elie, "Mice That Eat Yogurt Have Larger Testicles," Scientific American, Friday, May 4th, 2012. : #PhotoOfTheDay #NaturopathicMedicine #NaturopathicDoctor #Naturopathy #Naturopath #FunctionalMedicine #FunctionalDoctor #IntegrativeMedicine #LifestyleMedicine #Nutrition #HealthTalk #YEGFitness #LeakyGut #Dysbiosis #GutFunction #GutHealth See more
