Moving Coops Family Antics! Took kids out to a friends ice shack to fish, one of our middle kids can fillet a fish like a professional and also cook up supreme fish!! Like delicacy fancy fish.. an I wasn’t a fish eater before.. I did not like fish.. fish is also so different up north here in taste - extreme taste and no fishy taste... so different from childhood memories! We live in beautiful country, this is 8 miles from our farm!!... Now a Funny!!! We took the kids down in our little VW Jetta wagon and onto the ice, plowed trough a few snow drifts no trouble... then went back to the farm to get a light as getting dark and nothing in the shack. Well we delivered the light and back out and up the hill to go home. Only we took the hill slower to get some nice photos for YOU,,,, and we did not get up the hill, drove backward back down and attempted two more times, no go, sooooooo. Back out onto the ice and take a real run up the long hill. Well the mighty VW Jetta Wagon got home! Yep crazy chicken farmers, and crazy farmers that challenge our Jetta Wagon to be a farm vehicle.

City trip this week - P.A. & Saskatoon! Or anywhere along our long route From Nipawin/White Fox!!! TOMORROW - Jan 18th!... I want to do a feature post on this Amazing breed and hope to soon, with Better pictures and Fun Adult Pictures! These are True Standard Rhode Island Red! These are not your hatchery stock. Very different bird, temperament and body type. This breed is an amazing layer and today as feed costs for our beautiful birds keeps going up, that is important. They are laying up a storm right now, just had 47 out of 48 RIR chicks hatch 2 days ago. Only 1 egg didn’t hatch.. very healthy vigorous chicks. This breed performs in our crazy Saskatchewan climate of always changing. THESE chicks are available for this weeks trip.. please message me!!! This breed truly is a performer!!!! Makes our dollar work! Rhode Island Red bred to standard are also gorgeous, and don’t get enough attention in the heritage world. A breed that is pretty, unique and performs!! I love the true deep mahogany color of this breed, large stature, and the unique body standard.. the tail set on this breed is to be in a almost straight line from body, slight angle! This stands out from other breeds as most have a high tail set especially on roosters. The brick Shape of the body gives substance to duo purpose and being able to butcher extra roosters! Our roosters are stately and large. The vet came out to do a normal check over and could not believe the size. Use to only seeing hatchery style RIR! There is pictures of the adult stock on my website! Be sure to visit it. Link at top on my fb page!! Their coats shimmer in the sun. Unfortunately my updated pictures were taken one day in winter when they didn’t want to leave the coop. So hard to see the beautiful deep mahogany color that shimmers in the sun!

Fun Colors of Winter in the Coop! Just took some very fast pictures of some our pretty gems! Genetics are fun when it comes to the various shade of olive, green, blue or shades blue green.. and even the shades of brown from Marans! This year a few of my Maran hens are laying with a extra layer of bloom to them. Very hard to get an actually picture here as camera is lightening the eggs up!!! But the bloom lends to a look of almost pinkish(well burgandyish) shade to... them. Camera just lightened it more.. but it is neat! The really light egg there is actually a true blue and pretty but can’t catch on phone camera and looks extra light because of all the very dark eggs around it! The deep Olive is so pretty! Only have one hen laying like that. The emerald blue is still a Olive Eggers, but 2nd generation that was breed back to blue egg gene again!!

Website Update: small update! On this cold blizzard day - I went in and updated my website with 2021 Breeds! Note: it was just a quick update to tell you what breeds we will be offering and a small description! I will go back in and out a more detailed description and pictures. Which will likely be in December .... I do have some pictures here on my page and will try to grab some more in the next bit. But wanted to offer this update so everyone knows what we have as I have preorders coming in already and want to give everyone a chance to get in on preordering if they would like to try and get a certain area of time for hatch.. I am hatching some breeds now and the rest will start in January and February and on! We have streamlined to 5 breeds and a cross so I can better concentrate on quality as I brought in some very amazing lines and ones that are producers plus beautiful mix of colors in chickens and egg color. My goal over the years is to truly test breeds to our severe up and down climate and short winter days which most other places don’t deal with. With feed prices going up and long winters which means using more power than most other provinces and or countries we have to have breeds that perform but are also enjoyable to the eyes! Enjoy!! Message me with questions and orders! Please click link below to visit my website. Also at top of my Facebook page is our website link as well for quick reference... http://www.movingcoops.com/

Beautiful Blue Gems & Patiently Wait! Well my Wheaten/Blue/Splash Wheatens are laying nicely now! Have been for a bit and more joining the game! But not the patient wait for all these small pullet eggs to grow in size to set for hatch. I have a small handful I am able to set for hatch each week not but the pictures below show you all the ones that are not large enough to set. So pretty and so hard to wait! A true light blue and deep robin egg blue with shine to it.... So far none of the girls are laying that duller green blue color, which I am excited about as I am concentrated on not having that shade in my breeding flock. I want pretty blues!! But kids are enjoying eating these pretty eggs!
