Exterior painting this time of year in our climate is not recommended. There is too much moisture and the temperature is too low for proper adhesion, drying and curing of the vast majority of paint and related products. I have been approached by many people as of late for exterior painting and, I have to turn down the work because of these facts. A sustained temperature of no less than 10 degrees Celsius is in my experience the minimum required, I myself prefer to wait till the temperature is 15 Celsius minimum. I also like to let wood and any other porous surfaces dry for two weeks prior to painting. When these conditions are not met the results can be poor colour uniformity, water staining, paint blistering, poor adhesion, etc. Paint applied like this will not last and can actually speed up the rotting process in damp wood.
