Today is World Food Day, where we highlight the importance of food security for those in our own community and around the world. I was pleased to meet with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, a Christian response to hunger, whose work is more important than ever given the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and its fallout: many families being unable to put food on their tables. Today is the International Day of Rural Women, where we celebrate all our women and girls who come from and contribute to our rural communities. Farmers feed families, and we need to show our support for our rural communities across our country!

I am pleased to announce I have been elected the Chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women. I am looking forward to our upcoming session where will be examining the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women, among other topics.

Today is the International Day of the Girl Child, where we celebrate our girls and remind them they can do anything. Women’s rights are human rights, and every girl deserves to grow up in a world of equality. I will continue to stand up for the rights of women and girls and all marginalized Canadians, and always advocate for more measures to reduce violence against women and girls.
