The environmental handling fee on tires sold in Nova Scotia is going up September 1. The RRFB says the fee for all passenger tires, including motorcycle, camper and trailer tires, as well as some light truck tires, will go from $3.00 to $4.50. The fee for light truck tires larger than a 17 inch rim size, highway truck tires and tractor trailer tires will climb to $13.50 - an increase of $4.50.... The RRFB says the current fees aren`t high enough to cover the full cost of the tire recycling program. The increase is the first since the environmental handling fee was introduced in 1996.

On this day in 1904, Harold D. Weed of Canastota, New York, is issued U.S. Patent No. 768,495 for his "Grip-Tread for Pneumatic Tires," a non-skid tire chain to be used on automobiles in order to increase traction on roads slick with mud, snow or ice.

The News has changed once again! Mr Tire Ltd just received a call from Access Nova Scotia and the Director is releasing a letter today to advise they are extending the deadline to May 30th for removing studded tires.

There has been some information communicated through local media and word of mouth that the deadline for removing studded tires was extended until May 30th. We were in contact with Vehicle Compliance and Department of Motor Vehicles this morning, and they have confirmed that this is not the case. The deadline was April 30th. We wanted to communicate this to our customers to ensure you are well informed informed and do not get ticketed for miscommunication.
