Wood burning season is upon us. Have you had your fireplace cleaned and inspected yet? The Ontario Fire Code (O.Reg 388/97) Part 2 speaks to the maintenance req...uired for solid fuel burning appliances, and states that chimneys and fireplaces shall be inspected annually, and cleaned as required. Proper chimney maintenance reduces the risk of potentially deadly chimney fires. With everybody spending more time at home, and the snowbirds staying north this year, we have seen an increase in people planning to use their fireplace this winter. In some cases, the fireplace hasn’t been used in years. It is imperative that you have your wood burning fireplace cleaned and inspected to ensure that it meets current codes and can stand up to the heat that a wood burning fireplace creates. Have Mr. T’s Chimney Service’s W.E.T.T. certified chimney sweep come out to clean and inspect your chimney if you plan on using your fireplace this winter. Our Sweep and Basic Inspection service includes a full sweep of your chimney and clean out of the fireplace, a visual inspection to ensure all components function as intended, and that all clearance to combustibles requirements are met. Book your appointment now to ensure your fireplace is safe this winter. 905-505-1117. Here are some fireplace safety tips from the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs website. Do not remove fireplace embers or ash, or if you do, place them in a metal container with a lid and cover them with water. Do not place them in a plastic or paper bag or other container that is not fire-resistant. Do not dispose of them indoors or close to your home or another structure. Use care with "fire salts," which produce colored flames when thrown on wood fires. They contain heavy metals that can cause intense gastrointestinal irritation and vomiting if eaten. Keep them away from children. Do not burn wrapping papers in the fireplace. A flash fire may result as wrappings ignite suddenly and burn intensely. Never burn gift wrappings, boxes, cartons, or other types of packing in the fireplace. They burn too rapidly and generate far too much heat. Don't hang Christmas stockings from the mantel when the fireplace is in use. Always use a screen in front of the fireplace to protect against flying sparks. Never use gasoline or any other flammable liquids to start a fire. Use only seasoned and dried wood. Never leave the fire unattended or let it smoulder. Clean the ashes regularly. Place the ashes in a metal container and store outside away from flammable materials. Don't use Christmas trees for firewood. #Mrtchimneyservice #georginainfo #chimney #chimneycleaning #homeowner #winterprep #georgina #homeownertips

This photo was taken recently during a level 2 W.E.T.T inspection with our chimney inspection camera. This is a bad installation that has created a fire hazard within the system. Smoke, creosote and toxic gases such as carbon monoxide can enter the home with a bad connection like this. Mr. T's Chimney Service is W.E.T.T certified. Call us when you need a W.E.T.T inspection for your home. 905-505-1117

Watch until the camera rolls over at the end. This is a 100% clogged chimney flue. This buildup is a result of burning poor quality wood at a low temperature, and lack of maintenance. This clog will cause toxic smoke and gases such as carbon monoxide to fill the home. Annual cleaning and inspection is recommended to avoid dangerous situations like this. Don't wait for the fall rush to book your cleaning. Call now to book your appointment. 905-505-1117
