As I review my document from a few years ago, " Mental Health and First Aid " it is more critical than ever to provide Mental Health awareness, information and actionable goals for everyone in Canada. Remember though, " Awareness is not enough when the house is on fire ". My presentations from Windsor to Thunder Bay reveal the growing epidemic of Mental Illness in Ontario. I love feedback. A good question from a workshop participant, " we know lots of people are milking the s...ystem", all I could say was " well, when it happens to you or a family member , it becomes very real, like with me ". Creating personal wellness plans, that are real, and very different for everyone fits the saying, " the idea is not to escape the storm, but to find calm during the storm. Unless you live under a rock, we know that Covid 19 will create massive mental health implications. We have the Canadian Mental Health Association to lead the way, I have seen the excellent work they do everyday, first hand. The statistics were already high before Covid, I personally think 1 in 5 is an underestimate, and remember each person has a family. This dopamine fuelled technological treadmill society promoted mental illness in many ways. We need to reach out and help each other more than ever before. Your personal wellness plan; cognitively, emotional/social, spiritual and physical will help in this saying given to me by a family member, " the shit is going to hit the fan, it's how you clean it off when the fan stops ".
