The Canadian winter conditions can create the toughest wear and tear on your vehicle. Here is a quick checklist to protect your car through winter: Give your car a regular wash to clean off road salt and improve visibility. ... Put on a good set of winter tires. Apply a protective wax coat. Avoid driving over large puddles or potholes as it could cause tire punctures. Try to avoid parking on the street to prevent snow, road salt, or collision damage. Top up all vehicle fluids. Get a maintenance check. Safe driving!

Are winter tires mandatory in Canada? The answer depends on where you live in Canada. Currently, winter tires are provincially mandatory in Québec and are also required for many routes in British Columbia. Nevertheless, if you live outside of these provinces, you should still seriously consider winter tires; remember that they are vital to keeping you and your family safe on the road during snowy conditions.

You may wonder, is Premium gas worth it? If you skip splurging on premium gasoline and go for the cheapest, should you feel guilty? The good news is that you shouldn't! Experts, such as the Canadian Automobile Association, say that a very small percentage of vehicles in Canada require premium gasoline. Just follow the recommended type in your car's manual, and your vehicle will be just fine.
The engine can be vulnerable at startup during colder weather. That's when the oil should keep flowing, but cold temperatures make it either not flow at all or flow too slowly, which can take a toll on the engine. Synthetic oil is a game-changer for your engine. Even in -40 degree temperatures, it doesn't freeze and flows properly through your engine, unlike conventional oil. It also improves fuel efficiency and extends oil change intervals.
