People injured in car accidents can suffer a strain of the neck muscles and surrounding soft tissue, more commonly known as whiplash. Ensuring active treatment under the care of a qualified physiotherapist can help speed recovery and prevent a reoccurrence of injury. Whiplash may result in tender muscles (Grade I) and limited neck movement (Grade II), which starts one to two days post-accident. This type of injury is short lived and most people make a complete recovery. TREA...TING WHIPLASH: Successful treatment requires patient participation and active efforts to maintain daily activity. A physiotherapist will assess your whiplash injuries, and discuss options for rehabilitation treatment and pain relief. Our team at MRPT Mobile Physiotherapy can design and help maintain a rehabilitation program that will teach you exercise to help you regain your strength and ability to move. Take part in a rehabilitation program is very important because it can help speed up your recovery and help get you back to your normal activities sooner. MRPT can work together with you and your loved one to create safe treatment plans catered to your specific goals and needs. We also make it convenient by coming to you at home. ** Our team at MRPT is still making patient safety and our own safety top priority during these times of COVID-19. With the continuance of practicing physical distance due to Covid-19 a lot of sports and activities have been halted. Golf is one of the few sports that allows you to physical distance AND socialize at a distance. With the spike in Golfers this season due to Covid-19, MRPT would like to give some physiotherapy tips to help improve your golf game and aide in keeping you injury free. . Back and knee pain are a common result from golfing. Rotator cuff injury, tennis elbow, gol...f elbow or tendonitis are common injuries suffered from golf. . Below are some tips to hopefully help keep you injury free this season: 1. Walk 20-30 minutes per day. Walking regularly at least 4x/week will help keep you in shape and help prevent injury. 2. Use the right equipment. We recommend that you choose the golf equipment to match your skill level and body type. 3. Practice your back swing. Dont increase to a full swing until you have practiced waist-level swings for a while to get things ready and warm. 4. STRETCH! Stretch before AND after. This will help keep your joints mobile and your muscles relaxed. If you are serious about becoming the best golfer you can be and lower your risk of injury; contact MRPT Mobile Physiotherapy and we can set you up with a therapist from our team. We will come to you for further guidance/instruction to identify potential physical problems/injury and work with you to develop a plan to help keep you physically fit to enjoy the full golf season. #physicaltherapy #physiotherapy #physio #mapleridgephysiotherapy #mobilephysiotherapy #mobilephysio #rehabilitation #physicalrehabilitation #MRPTmobilephysio #golf #cedarridgegolfcourse #golfphysio #golfphysiotherapy #golfswing #golfphysicaltherapy

What is a stroke? There are two broad categories of stroke, those caused by a brain bleed or hemorrhage and those caused by a clot in a blood vessel carrying blood to the brain. A hemorrhage happens when a blood vessel breaks. This impacts the brain in two ways. First, by interrupting the flow of blood to the brain cells, and second, because blood has a toxic effect on brain cells when the two are in direct contact. A blood clot impacts the brain by stopping the flow of blood... to the brain. When the brain cells are deprived of blood flow, oxygen, and nutrients brain cells die. In both types of stroke, the change in circulation ultimately effects the brains function and the persons ability to complete certain tasks or activities. What are some common issues post stroke? No two strokes are the same, just as no two people who experience a stroke are the same; however, some common concerns post stroke include: -Weakness of the arm or leg on one side -loss of flexibility -Changes to balance -Decreased ability to walk -Decreased ability to complete usual tasks of daily living -Changes in the ability to speak -Changes in the ability to swallow and eat -Changes in vision or perception -Changes in memory, thinking or judgement How can Physiotherapy with MRPT help with recovery? At MRPT we have a team of Physiotherapists, Kinesiologists and Physiotherapy Assistants who work together to address the patients needs, identify the problem the patient is facing due to their stroke, and develop plans to help the person recover their abilities, manage any long-term changes, and achieve their goals. At MRPT we also make it convenient by coming to you at home or care home facility. Having a low level of physical activity is known to put people at risk of having a stroke. This is also true for people who have had a previous stroke. People who have had a stroke can improve their physical fitness through exercise programs, decreasing the risk of stroke while also increasing their quality of life. Exercise completed under the supervision of a physiotherapist, Kinesiologist, or physiotherapy assistant has been shown to be safe and beneficial in improving quality of life.
