Just like the leaves are changing, our skin is too! Leaves Here a few tips on what you can do to adjust your skincare routine for the upcoming chilly weather 1 Try a gentler cleanser. Creamy or milk based cleansers are a great adjustment to substitute in. Milk based cleansers are the perfect combo of gently cleaning your skin without disrupting your skins moisture barrier as that will be key to maintaining during the chilly months ahead. My favourite milk based cleans...er is the Sensitive Milk Cleanser by @pureandsimpleca 2 Keep exfoliating but not as often. Exfoliation is super important but you may notice how more sensitive and dry our skin gets during colder months, so over exfoliating is a no-no as you will just be exasperating these skin issues. I recommend bringing it down to 1-2 times per week. A great exfoliant for any type of skin is the Sensitive Skin Exfoliant + Mask from @pureandsimpleca 3 Replenish with a face serum. Serums are highly concentrated, which means that they can be very effective at helping your skin restore itself. You can either go for a hydrating serum based on hyaluronic acid (skin plumping) or a Vitamin C based serum, which will help brighten skin tone and repair from free radical damage from the summer months (UVA/UVB rays!). 4 Thicken up your moisturizer. Our skin looses its moisture a lot easier in the fall. A thicker and richer lotion will help reinforce your skins natural barrier and improve its ability to retain moisture. If you don’t have a thicker moisturizer, I always recommend to my clients to add in a facial oil AFTER applying a lotion. Facial oils not only have a thicker molecular structure but are also packed with nutrient actives, providing the same performance effect of a thicker lotion. 5 SPF ALWAYS! 6 Invest in a humidifier. Dry air a killer for skin. Having a humidifier in your home will help increase moisturize levels, creating optimal conditions for your skin to stay plump and healthy. Okay, okay okay! So after a LONGGGGGG 5 months, Halton is officially moving into Stage 3 this Friday, July 24th! And this meansthat facial services (including Makeup) can officially resume! While my facial services will re-open this Friday, my makeup services will re-open on Sunday, August 23rd. This is to ensure that I can strategize a safe re-opening plan for makeup and my brides for the remainder of this years bridal season. Your safety and wellbeing is my top priority.... Although I may look a tad different wearing a full face shield, mask and unfortunately, no hugs when entering my studio, my love for helping you and your skin feel great goes unchanged. If you have already been scheduled for your facial, I recommend you look over my new protocols and procedures for re-entering my studio PRIOR to your appointment. TEMPORARY HIATUS To all my clients, thank you so much for the tremendous love and continued support throughout the past 4 months, it means the world to me! While I still don’t have a re-opening date due to the current restrictions and the amount of uncertainty as to when we will be able to work again, I have decided to take a temporary HIATUS. To heal mentally, physically, emotionally, financially and personally. I’ll be unplugging.... There are a lot of changes happening in my personal life for me and my family and I will be taking the time to fully focus on these new changes. I am hoping myself and my fellow MUA’s and skin care therapists will get the green light to re-open soon ... In the meantime, my mini at-home facial kits will still be available to order! Although they won’t be the same as getting a facial done, it’ll allow you to stay engaged with your skin care! Please, PLEASE do not give into the trend of trying different exfoliants all at once and too frequently! When exfoliation is done properly (1-2 times per week) whether with manual or chemical exfoliants like AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) or BHA’s (beta hydroxy acids, they can help shed away dead skin cells and reveal fresh, glowing skin. However, there is such thing as over exfoliating and it’s important to pay attention to your skin if you notice any of the following symptoms:... 1 Redness, irritation, burning or peeling 2 Small pimple-like breakouts 3 Increased sensitivity to other products in your routine 4 Development of a waxlike/shiny texture Over exfoliation not only causes feelings of irritation to the skin, but exposes the underlying skin that has not renewed properly. This is where other products in your skin care routine can feel irritating. You first need to find an exfoliant that works well for your skin type. For example, lactic acid and glycolic acid are the two most common AHA’s and are best for dry, sensitive skin. Salicylic acid is a very popular BHA that is recommended for those with combination and oily skin. When in doubt, using a manual exfoliant with spherical wax beads such as jojoba beads works best on any type of skin! AND PLEASE! Don’t ever use a manual and chemical exfoliant in the same day!
