MS Society Of Canada 17.11.2020

I’ve been a volunteer with the MS Society for 30 years and lived with relapsing-remitting MS for the same amount of time. Like many others, I have my good days and bad days, but through it all, I try to keep a positive outlook on life to help me through tough times. Connecting with others is a great mental recharge and I look forward to events like Burgers to Beat MS Day every year. I’ve participated since the dawn of the campaign, and during my first year, I’ll never forget... the memory of eating Teen Burgers and supporting local radio spots. As it became an annual fundraising event with more A&W restaurants participating, it also became an awareness event for the MS community. Many of us would visit the restaurants to thank the customers, the managers, the owners and most importantly, the staff as they are the ones that really drive the campaign. For the past several years, I’ve been planting myself at the A&W closest to my house for the entire Burgers to Beat MS Day. I set up a small table with information about MS and the MS Society. The manager buys a cake and I serve it as dessert to the customers. It’s a very busy day for staff, so I also do my best to help clear and wipe tables for them. I want to express my sincere gratitude to A&W and to everyone who participates and donates to this campaign. It’s a very generous commitment for A&W and it really impacts my life. I’m able to participate in this event because of the programs, services, and research that are funded by MS Society events like this one. I also want to share, on behalf of everyone I know living with MS, a heartfelt thank you to the front line staff who for months ask, Would you like to donate to help people living with MS? The notion that people care enough to go beyond what’s expected so that I, and others like me, can live a better quality of life, is a humbling fact. This year, I will miss being in the store to greet customers and say thank you, but I will be there in other ways at the drive-thru or by ordering take-out. My favourite A&W treat is a frosty mug of A&W Root Beer, but during Burgers to Beat MS Day, I will indulge in a Teen Burger, sweet potato fries, the famous onion rings and, of course a 'diet' A&W Root Beer Float. - Theresa, diagnosed in 1990. Join us on August 20 for Take Out Burgers to Beat MS, where $2 from every Teen Burger sold across the country through A&W mobile ordering, drive-thru, take-out, and dine-in will support Canadians affected by MS.
