Bismillah, Langara MSA would like to express great sadness on the murder of George Floyd and the countless victims of racial injustice throughout the world. We send out prayers and condolences to all families and friends who have lost loved ones to discrimination. Langara MSA is proud to call itself an ally and support our Black brothers and sisters in their strive to achieve equality and justice. Allah SWT commands us in the Quran to stand for justice when he says:... O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted. (4:135) Please remember that we stand as a community, united against the oppressors and strive to bring justice to the oppressed. We encourage you to begin conversations within your home in an effort to bring awareness to the gravity of this situation. A seminar hosted by Muslim Alliance in North America is extremely beneficial for educating oneself about the views of scholars on the current situation of the United States. (Linked below) We also encourage donating to the various organizations who are taking the responsibility of providing assistance to those affected most by the COVID pandemic and strict curfews in cities in the States. One such organization that has been supported by prominent Islamic scholar, Imam Zaid Shakir, is Al Maa’uun based in Minneapolis. Their team works tirelessly to provide support to those in need with critical services such as food, basic supplies, rent assistance, mentor ship and much more. (Linked below) It is our duty to speak up for justice. May Allah(SWT) give us all the strength to stand firm on the side of justice and to use our voice to advocate for the right cause. Peace be upon you all!, Langara Muslim Students Association is uniting to help the community against the spread of COVID-19. There are many people without families, who may be struggling financially that require assistance in this time. We are supporting Islamic Relief's COVID-19 response by helping to provide free kits for vulnerable communities across Canada, and financial assistance for families living below the poverty line. Islamic Relief Canada's COVID-19 response cov...ers the following: - Hygiene kits for shelters and homeless individuals - Re-stocking non-perishable items at food banks - Financial support for low-income families If you would like to be a part of this amazing initiative and benefit from the immense reward please donate.
