A sneak peek at what is planned to mark Manitoba Day next week! Multidisciplinary artist Tracy Charette Fehr’s exhibit ‘In My Blood: Women Standing Strong’ will be launched next week and will grace the space in our choir loft until the end of summer. Inspired by her Métis foremothers, Tracy works in textiles, sculpture and clay to explore the Métis experience especially that of women. More to come next week! . #manitobaday #manitoba #métis #manitobametis #artexhibit #textileart #clayart #metisartist #metiswomen

Something interesting from the London Gazette! #onthisday in 1870, Queen Victoria issued this Order-in-Council to officially admit Manitoba into Confederation as of July 15; the notice was published on June 24th. The Gazette is the governments official journal where all laws and Orders-in-Council must be published. It is still used today in every province and territory, and nationally. Interestingly, the Legislative Assembly of Assiniboia only received and reviewed the Manitoba Act on the day this Order-in-Council was published (June 24). On that day, after review and discussion, the Assembly unanimously ratified the Act and adjourned its final session, making way for the July 15th transfer. According to you, at which point was our entry into confederation official? When the Act received Royal Assent on May 12? When the Order-in-Council was issued on June 23? When the Legislative Assembly of Assiniboia ratified the Act on June 24? Or on the date of the official transfer on July 15?
