(En français en commentaire) From an fb discussion about air spaces around Golden: So in short, Golden is in class G up to 18000'. Airways south of Golden, just south of Parson are class E up to 18000 except for an extension of Calgary airport that is class B from 12500 or the MEA (MOCA) to 18000 not far SE from Parson. However, from 12500' (or MOCA) to 18000' above airways, it is class B automatically. The airspace online map shows them all but effectively, the online map di...splays a MEA range along it. The MEA (MOCA) is defined as: The published altitude above sea level between specified fixes on airways or air routes which assures acceptable navigational signal coverage, and which meets the IFR obstruction clearance requirements. In mountainous area, the MEA outside airways is 1500' or 2000' above an obstacle which means the MOCA should be at least that. Could be higher. Regarding oxygen, the rule is: oxygen is required from 10000' to 13000' after 30 minutes or at all times above 13000'. But if we fly high a lot, our body adapt to altitude. I have flown to 15000' with no issue. And we fly up and down all the time, so it's not the same as in an airplane. I'm not going to carry O2 for the low odds I would go above 13000'. L'hiver est presque là. Cette année de covid, pas d'incident à rapporter. Sauf peut-être un agriculteur juste au sud de Parson qui est un peu menaçant envers les parapentistes. Un changement d'attitude qui semble en corrélation avec les excès du Willi et certains éléments criminels (et traitres) du vol libre.

Du 13 au 26, on a eu de la fumée dense en provenance des incendies états-uniens et de la province, puis du temps maussade avec pluie qui a tout nettoyé. Depuis dimanche dernier, le 27, le temps est au beau fixe et va le rester pour la semaine au moins. J'en profite pour terminer le revêtement de ma maison et ma terrasse. J'aurai peut-être le temps de voler dans quelques jours. Suis monté plus tôt pour voler plus longtemps. Doug vole en para aujourd'hui et Stu décolle. Je me prépare mais ces nuages (photo) étranges arrivent, un troph probablement. Je me pararepose en attendant qu'ils passent. Hugo, venu pour un vol bi, me réveille au bon moment, le troph presque passé. On se retrouve à la butte (photo), sur le point d'aller atterrir. Mais un petit thermique fort me remonte. Ça allume et je me tape deux heures. Pas mal. Went earlier to fly longer. D...oug is flying para today and Stu takes off. I'm getting ready but these strange clouds (photo) are coming, probably a troph. I pararest while waiting for them to pass. Hugo, who came for a tandem flight, wakes me up at the right time, the troph almost passed. We find ourselves at the butte (photo), about to go land. But a small strong thermal hit me. Hier, ciel bleu mais venteux, j'ai passé. Aujourd'hui, vent léger et bons thermiques, assez pour joindre le sommet (photo). Vu Stu Cobbledick (para). Un deltiste se tenait du côté ouest du mont 7 pendant mon vol (Doug Litzenberger?). Il y avait deux couches d'inversions mais de bons thermiques dessous. Yesterday, blue sky but windy, I passed. Today, light wind and good thermals, enough to reach the summit (photo). Seen Stu Cobbledick (para). A hang glider was staying on the west side of Mt 7 during my flight (Doug Litzenberger). There were two layers of inversions but good thermals underneath.

Beaucoup d'activités de vol au mont 7 aujourd'hui. J'ai pu capturer les deltistes James et Louis en photos. Louis a bien travaillé les thermiques près du décollage et de l'antenne. J'ai tenté une distance, vu ma montée initiale, mais ça n'a pas fonctionné plus loin. Je ne sais pas trop les autres vol. J'ai vu plusieurs descentes probablement de débutants et de biplaces. Lots of flying activity at Mt 7 today. I was able to capture hang gliders James and Louis in photos. Louis worked well on the thermals near take-off and the antenna. I tried a distance, given my initial climb, but it didn't work any further. I'm not sure about the other flights. I saw several sleds probably beginners and tandem.

Retour du beau temps. Décollé tard croyant que ce serait bon jusqu'au coucher du soleil. Mais un nuage qui semblait créé par de la fumée a arrêté ça (photo). Quand même une demi-heure. Return of good weather. Took off late believing it would be good until sunset. But a cloud that seemed to be created by smoke stopped it (photo). Still half an hour.

Aujourd'hui, Félix et Guillaume sont allé voir les conditions. Temps incertain. Vent laminaire. Ils ont tenu une demi-heure environ avant que la pluie les chassent. Vent modéré nord-ouest et ouest. On croyait en une superbonne journée mais du cirrus est arrivé et s'épaississait. Seuls Guillaume et moi avons volé je crois (photo). Cependant, l'air froid était instable et contenait de bons thermiques. On a tous les deux fait des distances. Moi, Parson et Guillaume, Brisco. Moderate north-westerly and westerly wind. We thought we were having a super good day, but the cirrus clouds came in and thickened. Only Guillaume and I flew I believe (photo). However, the cold air was unstable and contained good thermals. Le vent s'est levé en après-midi, après les averses du matin. Trop fort sauf pour Guillaume qui a fait 1:40 en dynamique en soirée. Il a dû faire des spirales pour descendre à la fin. Too strong except for Guillaume who did 1:40 in dynamics in the evening. He had to spiral down at the end. A couple from the coast canceled a tandem flight (pictured). Aujourd'hui, ciel bleu et vent faible me font monter plus tôt. Mais un voile de cirrus intermittent faiblit les thermiques à intervalles. Je tient quand même 1:40. Plusieurs autres ont aussi volé dont Garth, Janusz, Sergey, Burt, etc. Bonne journée. Today, blue sky and weak wind make me go up earlier. Aujourd'hui, plein soleil et moins venteux un peu. Un deltiste et plusieurs parapentistes ont volé et monté. Quelques uns ont volé (gratté) en soirée (Stu, Thomas, Michal; photo, Peter, moi). Aujourd'hui, très bon pour certains, dont Guillaume qui s'est tapé plus de trois heures au sommet. Beau travail bas alors que ça grattait la pente. Un vent nord au sol mais ouest en altitude. Aujourd'hui, vent faible et cirrus. Thermiques faibles. J'ai allongé mon vol près de l'antenne (photo). D'autres ont mieux fait plus tôt en après-midi et après au côté ouest. Vent sud aujourd'hui devenant nord. À la Vigie, c'était plutôt SO. Très bon au départ (photo), les thermiques s'évaporaient 100 m plus haut et se sont éteint soudainement dix minutes plus tard. Louis, Mike en biplace, Guillaume et moi ont fait un vol de soirée. Un deltiste volait plus tôt. Wind southerly today becoming northerly. At the Lookout, it was rather SW. Very good at the start (photo), the thermals evaporated 100 m higher and suddenly died out ten minutes later. Louis, Mike in tandem, Guillaume and I did an evening flight. A hang glider was flying earlier.

Vent sud devenant nord ouest, les conditions étaient super malgré les nuages ce soir pour Guillaume et moi (photo). Au moins un deltiste et un autre parapentiste ont profité de ces conditions. South wind becoming north west, conditions were great despite the clouds this evening for Guillaume and me (photo). At least one hang glider and another paraglider took advantage of these conditions.

Aujourd'hui, fort vent sud en après-midi qui n'était pas invitant. Jonathan a quand même volé. Monté plus tard en espérant que le vent descende, Guillaume et moi avons coupé quelques arbustes au décollage nord en attendant. Efforts récompensés par une vent faible qui semblait marginal (photo) mais qui s'est avéré plein de thermiques bien juteux (photo). Distances faites. Today, strong southerly wind in the afternoon which was not inviting. Jonathan flew anyway. Up later, hoping that the wind would drop, Guillaume and I cut a few shrubs at the north takeoff while waiting. Efforts rewarded by a weak wind which seemed marginal (photo) but which turned out to be full of juicy thermals (photo). Distances made.

Le beau temps revient avec vent modéré et thermiques superbons. Le vent a retenu plusieurs deltistes et moi jusqu'après 18:00. Trois deltistes ont volé plus tôt et sûrement fait de bonnes distances. J'ai quand même fait 30 km en une heure malgré les stratus (photo). The good weather returns with moderate winds and supergood thermals. Aujourd'hui, vent faible du sud avec un air étrange. Très bons thermiques faciles (photo) mais grosses descendances entre ceux-ci. Impossible de faire une distance sud. Beaucoup de vols locaux longs. J'ai fait une petite distance vers le nord. Today, weak southerly wind with a strange air. Very good, easy thermals (photo) but big sink between them. Impossible to make a southern distance. Lots of long local flights. I made a small distance to the north.

Ce samedi si ensoleillé et chaud s'est transformé en tempête en fin d'après-midi. Arbres tombés/cassés, toit soulevé. Certains on volé avant. Eu le temps d'une descente. This saturday so sunny and hot turned into a storm at the end of the afternoon. Fallen/broken trees, roof raised. Some have flown before. Had time for a sled.

Aujourd'hui, vent léger variable. Beau soleil puis, vers 16:00, cirrus. Je descend piteux. Mais le temps de descendre, le soleil réapparaît. Je remonte sur un pouce. Mais le vent trop faible avec une ombre de cirrus présage une descente. Rien de bon jusqu'à la butte alors que le soleil revient encore, et paf! Super bon thermique et distance de soirée. Plusieurs autres sont remontés. Certains ont peut-être volé toute la journée. L'air du mont 7... Today, variable light wind. B...eautiful sun then, around 16:00, cirrus clouds. I go down pitiful. But the time to go down, the sun reappears. I go up hitchhiking. But the too weak wind with a shadow of cirrus clouds presages a sled. Je ne suis pas allé à la Vigie aujourd'hui mais de très bons vols se sont fait comme on peut le voir sur xcontest.org. I did not go to the Lookout today but some very good flights were made as you can see on xcontest.org.

Encore très bon mais plusieurs n'ont pas aimé les fortes conditions de l'après-midi et ont atterri. Au moins trois paras ont fait un aller-retour. J'ai essayé sommet Tower et retour mais le vent de face ralentit trop mon aile si lente. Super journée! Very good again but several did not like the strong afternoon conditions and landed. At least three paras made an out and return. I tried Tower peak and back but the head wind slows my slow wing too much. Great day!

En vol au mont 7.

Alors aujourd'hui, la superbonne saison a commencé. Robert (photo) a battu son record personnel avec un vol aller-retour de 100km en 6 heures environ (décollé vers midi). Il rapporte que plusieurs autres se sont rendus à Canal Flats, ou plus loin. J'ai décollé tard (18:00) et fait 1:15 en local. Forts thermiques mais petits en basse altitude. So today the super good season has started. Robert (photo) beat his personal record with a 100km out and return flight in around 6 hours (launched around noon). He reports that several others made it to Canal Flats, or further. I took off late (18:00) and did 1:15 locally. Strong thermals but small at low altitude.

Superbe temps aujourd'hui. Des nouveaux deltistes, des parapentistes se refont les ailes un peu. Théo, para, a volé trois fois avec deux atterrissages en haut. J'arrive après et le ciel se couvre rapidement. Je gratte à la pointe nord pour un temps, puis l'air plus froid se met à buller. Je visite le sommet et revient gratter la Vigie. Matthew Brinton y décolle sur la vidéo. Superb weather today. New hang gliders, paragliders are getting their wings back a bit. Théo, para, flew three times with two landings at the top. I arrive afterwards and the sky is quickly covered. I scratch at the northern tip for a while, then the cooler air begins to bubble. I visit the summit and come back to scratch the Vigie. La saison commence à s'emplir depuis vendredi dernier. Bon vols. Samedi, moins bon. Dimanche et lundi pluie. Mardi, pas trop pire avec plusieurs bons vols locaux. Deltistes et parapentistes vus au sommet. Karen prépare un vol (photo) avec Guillaume, Carl et Sarah regardant. Plus tard, une buse à queue rousse cherche un repas (photo). The season has started to fill up since last Friday. Good flights. Saturday, worse. Sunday and Monday rain. Tuesday, not too bad with several good local flights. Hang gliders and paragliders seen at the top. Karen prepares a flight (photo) with Guillaume, Carl and Sarah onlooking. Later, a red-tailed hawk searches for a meal (photo).

Hier dimanche, le ciel s'est dégagé et le vent s'est amélioré. Pleins de vols faits. Vu que c'était mon premier vol de l'année, je suis monté tard et ai volé une heure avant le coucher du soleil. Les trois dernières semaines de septembre se sont passées sous la pluie. On a eu une chute de neige. Ma saison de vol 2019 est pas mal terminée. Maison mobile oblige. The last three weeks of september went by under the rain. We had a snowfall. The flying season 2019 is quite over.

Super journée pour vol local. Thermiques montaient presque au niveau du sommet. Deux deltistes et trois parapentistes ont volé. Super day for local flight. Thermals climbed almost at summit level. Two hang gliders and three paragliders flew.

Temps superbe sauf du cirrus (photo) qui a arrêté les thermiques avant le coucher du soleil. Presque assez bon pour une distance. Rencontré Hugo (photo) qui se remet de son accident du printemps. Beau mais cirrus ont tout arrêté pendant une heure. Puis, le soleil revenu, les thermiques aussi et du vol pour tous, assez nombreux, incluant un deltaplane (photo). Pas de distance. Incident: un débutant a pratiquement fait exprès pour se brancher, son deuxième cette année. Nice but cirrus shut it down for an hour. Then, sun being back, the thermals followed and flights for all, including a hang glider (photo). No distance. Incident: a beginner practically purposedly treed himself, his second this year.

Presque une superbonne journée de plein soleil et thermiques. Mais le vent trop nordet rendait probablement les thermiques moins facile et créait des descendances importantes. Quand même beaucoup de vols et au moins deux petites distances (photo). Almost supergood today full of sun and thermals. Une couche d'altostratus qui cachait le soleil en début d'après-midi s'est soudainement dissipée. Pleins de vols suivirent. Des vols bas vu l'inversion (photo), mais longs à souhaits. An altostratus layer hiding the sun in the beginning of the afternoon suddenly evaporated. Lots of flights followed. Low flights given the inversion (photo), but as long as wished.

Après plusieurs jours de temps plutôt mauvais, aujourd'hui retour aux vols. Biplaces et un deltiste en après-midi et encore un biplace en soirée. J'ai fait un vol avant le coucher du soleil car j'attendais un vent moins fort pour décoller du sud. Il y avait assez de vent pour tenir un temps (photo). After several days of rather bad weather, today return to flights. Tandems and one hang glider in the afternoon and another tandem in the evening. I did a flight before the sunset because I waited for a lighter wind to launch south. There was enough wind to maintain for some time (photo).

Aujourd'hui, plein soleil mais des petits orages nombreux sont arrivés en fin d'après-midi. Ça n'a empêché personne de faire de bons vols. Pas de bourasques. Aujourd'hui, une de ces journées pour faire des distances faramineuses. Pas beaucoup de monde pour en profiter. Moi-même, arrivé tard, je n'ai fait que 41 km. Tous ont bien monté et en ont eu plein l'altitude. Today, one of these super distance days. Not many people to use it though. Even I, arrived late, I did only 41 km. All climbed and had plenty of altitude.

Encore air chaud mais plus de soleil, donc meilleurs thermiques. Pas assez bon pour la distance. Plusieurs deltistes et parapentistes ont fait des vols locaux. Air still warm but more sun, hence better thermals. Not good enough for distance. Many hang gliders and paragliders did local flights.

Aujourd'hui, air chaud et inversion ont fait des thermiques marginaux et en plus un orage non prévu (photo) vient se pointer à Golden. Vols courts. Today, warm air and inversion made marginal thermals and an unforecasted storm (photo) comes check in Golden. Short flights.

Superbe journée. Le vent rapporté fort en après-midi puis s'est calmé. Plutôt calme mais soutenu, le vent permettait le dynamique devant l'antenne (photo). Tellement calme que mon bipbip s'est fermé tout seul pensant qu'il ne volait pas (il s'arrête automatiquement après 1/2 heure). J'ai failli m'endormir. Robert et Karen ont bien volé aussi cette fois (photos) et quelques autres. Superb day. The wind was reported strong in pm then calmed. Calm but sustained, it allowed dynamic lift by the antenna (photo). So calm that my bipbip shut itself down, thinking it was not flying (it shuts down automatically after 30 min.) Temps superbe avec vent pas trop fort. Essaims de parapentes en début d'après-midi. Plus tard, le vent devient modéré et le groupe du Willi va à leurs soupers. Robert, Karen et moi montons pour un vol. Robert raconte une histoire pour expliquer qu'il ne veut pas voler. Karen hésite plus longtemps (photo). J'hésite un peu vu la lenteur de mon aile mais j'y vais dans une accalmie. Vent pas trop fort avec thermiques décents me propulsent à hauteur du sommet en deux minutes (phot...o avec Karen en parattente). Superb weather with wind not too strong. Hier, Will Gadd décolle du mont 7 et fait une distance hors de l'ordinaire vers le nord-est, a traversé les Rocheuses à angle droit et la ligne de division des eaux pour atterrir dans les petites collines de l'Alberta.

Un mec a dit qu'il a atterri à Fairmont Hot Springs hier, probablement une des meilleures distances à date. Pluvieux hier, aujourd'hui beau soleil et vent faible invitent au vol et je participe avec mon premier vol de la saison (finalement). Biplaces en thermiques (photo). Anne et Steve (photo). Mon premier vol est en parapente et en Octane, un vol à haut niveau d'octane quand j'ai subi une fermeture près des falaises Pagliaro (lien xcontest). Hors de contrôle, sur le point de tirer le secours quand l'aile se replace d'un coup comme par enchantement. J'ai continué mon vol distance ...trop prudemment, 20 km. Garth a testé l'air (photo) pas encore assez thermique. Andrew (photos) a fait un petit vol pour se faire au site. Une demi-heure plus tard un orage a fait irruption. Nice sun in the morning and quite busy on site. Many were there already knowing storms were coming in the afternoon. Ben and Lyndsay (photo) had camped at launch. Lyndsay flew. Garth testing the air (photo), not thermally enough yet. Andrew (photos) did a small flight to feel the site. Half an hour later, a storm erupted.

Le ranch Keller est l'attéro officiel du Willi cette année. Et aussi le quartier général.

Conditions par super ces temps-ci mais quand même des vols se font. Un mauvais atterrissage hier en delta avec des culottes courtes ont fait des éraflures du genou à la cheville. Ci-bas, un nouveau site cumule les vols distances rapportés publiquement qui montre les meilleurs endroits. Le mt 7 figure bien. Conditions not super these days but flights are still done. A bad landing yesterday in a hang glider produced a shaffing from the knee to the ankle. Below, a new site cumulates distance flights publicly reported to show the best places.
