We would like to remember the 215 innocent Indigenous children who were taken from their homes, forced into the Residential school system and never returned home to their families. As educators our first instinct is to keep the children in our care safe, sadly and this was not was true for the over 150,000 Indigenous Children that attended Residential schools from the 1800's to 1997. We join in the call for a National Day of Mourning for the Lost Children of Residential Schoo...ls. We stand in solidarity with Survivors and Families. We will take the time to learn more by: -Learning about whose land we live on, check out Native-Land.ca for an interactive map. -Doing our Research, learn about the Indigenous People who were the land's original caretakers, Google them, look up their history but ALSO the CURRENT issues their communities face today and how you can help -Read the Truth and Reconciliation Report released in 2015 and it's 94 calls to action -Connect with your Elected officials and as them what actions they are taking to make a change Swipe for the number to call for those who may need counselling or support at this time. May the prayers, intentions, and thoughts of love and support we say and have today provide some comfort to those who continue to heal from these horrific tragedies.
