As 2020 comes to a close, we can’t help but feel extremely grateful for what this year had in store for MTLFITBROS. Despite not one, not two, but three lockdowns, we managed to move out of our OG HQ, move into a brand new space, and have so many new faces come through our doors over the summer months. We were also able to extend our offerings through our online platform, build a brand new website and spend many hours connecting, training and staying active over zoom. On beh...alf of the entire MTLFITBROS team, we sincerely appreciate all of you’re constant commitment and dedication to putting in your hard training efforts with MTLFITBROS. We thank each and everyone of you for your patience and flexibility during these trying times, and we can’t wait to continue working with you in 2021. Wishing you all a happy, healthy and active new year! See more

? . People usually do cardio for 1 of 2 reasons: It helps me lose weight... I want to Increase my endurance The biggest misconception people usually have about cardio is that if you don’t do it, you won’t lose weight. We can use it as a TOOL for weight loss, but ultimately your nutrition is going to play a very large role in changing body composition. Another misconception is that you can’t lose weight while training heavy and lifting weights. At MFB we actually prioritize strength training before straight-up cardio because you as an individual are a lot more complex than just the number on the scale. You deserve to get stronger, improve your quality of life and yes a little extra muscle on every looks pretty good. Look at yourself on a macro-level (multi-faceted) vs. a micro-level (just weight loss). If your routine for health and quality of life looks something like 30-45 minutes on X,Y,Z cardio machine and 5-10 minutes of ab work, glute work and arm work it might be time to re-evaluate your approach to achieving these goals! Why do you do cardio? Let us know in the comments below! See more

’ ! When we talk about getting more muscular and getting stronger we NEED stress to do this. ... This is referred to as the Stress, Recovery adaptation cycle. It’s a scientific principle known as General adaptation syndrome that has been around since the early 1900’s! So what is it? The goal is to get stronger. In order to do so, we must disrupt the baseline our body is at (known as homeostasis). To do so, we need to apply a STRESS to the body. In this case, it’s a certain event (like a workout). When we apply this stress our body recognizes it and wants to prepare itself in the future so it won’t have much of an effect on us again in the future. Our body will start a recovery process with the help of nutrition and sleep to overcome that overload event (workout). Finally, our body adapts so that we can tolerate what we have done and is prepared to handle more if need be. Why is it important for us? We must make a correlation that stress is important to our continued success. However, we must also realize that too much of it too often will be excessive stress and that can have a negative effect on trying to get stronger! This is a really basic and simple overview of this topic which itself has tons of nuisances! Push your training a little more! Some more weight, more reps, or more sets even! Don’t classify yourself as a weight! We hear so many clients tell us well I do 20 lbs as my goblet squat that’s me. WHY?? Let us know below if you’ve heard of this concept before! If not, how will you start implementing it:) See more

We have tried our fair share of masks at MFB as we entered our new reality of coaching. However, there just hasn’t been another one as good as from our friends at Stayingsafetogether! @stayingsafetogether.mtl The masks are super breathable and come in different sizes. We have personally trained in them many times and by far our favourite feature is the chin piece that keeps the mask from jumping all over the place on your face:) If you’re interested in grabbing a pair head o...ver to stayingsafetogether.com. Word on the street is if you use the code MTLFITBROS at check-out you get 10% off :)

! While there are many exercises that can work one muscle group there are some which @mtlfitbros we prioritize more than others. ... We value the fact that there are some exercises that offer more bang for your buck and should therefore be prioritized in your training. What should you prioritize in your exercise selection: A large amount of muscle mass being used (multiple joints used to execute the exercise. **Ex a squat vs a leg extension) The weight used- one of the driving factors of progress id progressive overload and must be considered when training towards becoming stronger and more muscular. STICKING to an exercise- nobody has to confuse their muscles. Pick a set of exercises that lign up with your goals and try to add more weight or more reps over a period of time before switching it up again! If this approach has worked well for you already double tap and show us some love! Comment below your favourite exercise and why! Let’s get a discussion going:) See more
