The Transportation Program at MTMS is a key piece of our innovative model. With the support of many organizations, we were able to pivot and utilize the buses to deliver the hundreds of food hampers to students and their families during the past five months. We are grateful to the many supporters of the Transportation Program, Factory Optical Yara International Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board Capital Ford Lincoln and Thyssen Mining who helped to keep the buses on the road. Thank you for your commitment to our students and for providing us with safe and reliable transportation daily, for the year ahead!

They Nailed It! Grade 6 students took up the Ultimate Cookie Challenge last week, applying their recent learning of fractions to real-life baking skills in their own kitchens. Congratulations to all the young and brilliant bakers for their very original cookie creations! Special thanks to our dear friend Jan for assembling these bags for our students and to the families, for their help and support during the creative process. We believe that all students will learn and every minute counts. This is a root belief at MTMS, even during this time and with technology distributed to middle school students, the capacity to learn and grow was even greater this week. With the closing of schools due to COVID-19, MTMS is working hard to fill the gap. Our heartfelt thanks to the Schools amazing community and to the Regina & District Food Bank, who have helped to ensure MTMS students and their families can continue to receive some of the essentials. Beyond, transitioning to virtual learning and adapting the ways that outreach support is provided, staff have been busy with the non-contact delivery of 172 hampers to families this week and checking-in to ensure overall well-being during this time. What an incredible afternoon! We are so fortunate to be treated to a pizza lunch at an awesome spot in #YQR - Cathedral Social Hall! Students spent the afternoon connecting with each other and leaders in the community. They talked books, entrepreneurship, energy efficiency and about building a network of great people.

It was an absolute privilege to have six members of the Canadian Progress Club - National, Regina Centre visit the school and share a bit about their journey with our students today. We are blessed for the generosity of Pro Metal Industries and their support of the Cultural Programming at MTMS. Pro Metal Industries understands the importance of sharing and teaching traditional Indigenous values to the next generation. Students were excited to celebrate this wonderful partnership with staff from Pro Metal and Pasqua First Nation at the school. Students will have the opportunity to continue exploring their culture, celebrate their identity and promote belo...nging through workshops with Buffalo People Arts Institute, Buffalo Boys drumming, First Nations dance lessons, Regalia design and creation, honing different beading techniques in creating art pieces, participating in traditional ceremonies and the chance to work with local Elders and artist's throughout the year. We were so excited to welcome Mr. Paul D. Sobey to MTMS this morning and share with him some recent creations from after-school programming. Mr. Sobey is the former President & CEO, and current Corporate Director of Empire Company Ltd, the holding company for Sobeys Inc.

Timeraiser is a silent art auction where attendees bid volunteer time, not dollars, for original art. Each year, Timeraiser supports emerging Canadian artists a...nd nonprofit organizations by meaningfully connecting art, Canadians and the causes they care about in a celebration of creativity and community. Mother Teresa Middle School was able to attend this event tonight to promote our mentoring program. We met a lot of cool people! Our school is entering our seventh year in our mentoring program and currently looking for people in the community to match our grade 7 students. We are proud to collaborate with Buffalo People Arts Institute for another year and offer Bringing Back the Buffalo programming for a 4th year at MTMS. Students embraced the elements of Mother Earth and wholeheartedly engaged in learning the history and significance of the buffalo, while working as a team to clean and scrape the hide. We had fire to keep us warm and songs for the Grandfather Buffalo Spirit to guide the experience. For the first time since beginning this part...nership with local artists 4 years ago, students and staff had the opportunity to finish both sides of the hide. We are extremely blessed to continue this Program through a variety of in-class workshops and after-school programs where students will learn traditional Indigenous practices and use this exact hide to create art pieces and learn beading techniques. The incredible support of our community continues to propel our students to be better prepared to learn and grow every day at MTMS! Thank you to the Lieutenant Governor and the Governor General for hosting our Executive Director and two MTMS graduates, among 4 other incredible groups, for a wonderful luncheon this past weekend. Students had the opportunity to share their educational experiences with her Excellency, and speak about the important factors incorporated in our unique model that were critical to their success.

In collaboration with local Indigenous Elders and Artists, MTMS launched "Bringing Back the Buffalo" Program for another year! Through half-day workshops and after-school enrichment programming hosted throughout the year, students will have an opportunity to learn the significance of the buffalo to First Nations culture and engage in activities like buffalo hide workshops, Powwow dancing and beading.
