When we think of coding and decoding, most of our thoughts go to computer languages, but for our G11 biology students, it means transcribing the genetic code from DNA to mRNA and then translating that code into an amino acid protein chain. How neat! Swipe through the photos to see decoding in action.
The first donations are in the bin! The Environment Club is collecting electronics until January 25th. Please place them (carefully!) in the bins in the main entrance.
Today we welcome our community back from winter break! All these smiling eyes say it all
There's a defining feature of Mulgrave's campus in this fabulous photo. Comment what you see below! Hint: we posted about it on Dec. 22.
Good morning, parents! Remember to place your lunch orders for K-G6. Head to our cafeteria webpage for the pre-ordering link.
Before the break, Mr Vodrey’s G11 Theory of Knowledge class explored the philosophical underpinnings of Indigenous worldviews and how they relate to knowledge acquisition. Students began by recognising that Indigenous communities should not be seen as a ‘cultural monolith’ and that they vary within Canada, as well as around the world. They then further investigated specific perspectives and the influence of those worldviews on ways of knowing.
We're reminiscing about Halloween last year and can't wait to see all of your costumes on Friday! Remember to dress up tomorrow and bring a toonie or donate via studentsgive.mulgrave.com toward the Halloween Zero Hunger Drive. Donations go to Backpack Buddies, a local non-profit working to end child hunger in our city. For additional information, please contact members of the SSAC team. *photos are from Halloweens past
Small Actions x Lots of People = Big Change Last year, your contributions to Mulgrave's Momentum annual fund helped build a new EY playground, enhanced language arts spaces, assisted with scholarships, and so much more. We're relaunching Momentum for this school year! Just imagine what we can accomplish together.
Obstacle fun in full effect! These JS students cruised around with the challenge of navigating the pylons. To manage traffic congestion on the road, only one per team member was allowed at a time, increasing the competitiveness of the race. Not only is this activity a great one to build spatial awareness, but it build up the quad muscles, too.
It's not too late to join the Upper School Halloween Hunt! For $5, Grade 7-12 students will receive a masquerade mask along with a set of photo scavenger hunt clues. Rack up the points to win prizes...first task: decorate that mask to make it as spook-tacular as possible. Register via the link in our bio. The scavenger hunt will take place over the Halloween weekend and participants will receive all of the details and clues via email. Don't forget to post your photos to social media using #MulgraveHalloweenHunt and to be mindful of COVID-19 safety protocols.
Our EY students are having a spooktacular time in the pumpkin patch...what a great way to kick off their Hallow-eek activities!
This weekend we are hosting the International Independent Schools' Public Speaking Competition online. We have 101 participants from around the world competing on Zoom, including three of our Senior School students, as well as a group of Middle Schoolers moderating virtual debate rounds. What a team effort!
Grade 3 students enjoyed great outdoor ed experiences at Yew Lake this week! Not only do these excursions build skills and make curriculum connections, they also support overall wellbeing and social bonding. #outdoored #mulgrave #mulgraveschool
Help us scare away hunger on October 30th! SSAC is collaborating with Backpack Buddies and with your donation we will be able to assist underprivileged children. Remember to wear your orange/black civvies or costume and bring a toonie (online donations at studentsgive.mulgrave.com) For information please contact members of the SSAC team.
As masks become more and more the norm when we leave our homes, it's vital that we wear them properly and mindfully. This adorable video will help you do just that! #masksafety
These aquatic plants were lucky to sit in a sous vide water bath and bask in the lamplight. Our G8 students are conducting a photosynthesis lab! They changed variables such as light intensity and water temperature to see which conditions generated the most oxygen. Neat! (As per Ministry guidelines, students are not required to wear masks within their learning group)
Ready...and...action! G12 Film has production of their full class scripts underway.
Inquiring minds and the creative process culminate in fantastic observation drawings. Well done, Grade 5!
Get in on the Halloween Hunts! Our amazing MVP volunteers organised some fun activities for Halloween, register via the link in our bio. Deadline is October 23rd, but quantities are limited. The Early Years & Junior School Hunt: Purchase a boo-tiful Halloween bucket for $10 (pictured above) and you'll get a load of goodies and clues for a fun scavenger hunt. Take photos along the way for a chance to win prizes, including a civvies day for your class. The Upper School Hunt: Purchase a masquerade mask for $5 and you'll also get clues to a photo scavenger hunt (that mask has to be in the pics!). Lots of great prizes are up for grabs for our older students, too.
Away they go! Our Early Years students had an idea to invent something...but what could it be? A marble run! They collected little treasures that they could roll down the marble run, bouncing in every direction. The construction of this invention included sanding and painting wood, then hammering and drilling with the help of their teachers (safety first, of course)!
