This past weekend, NBMC’s Skills Launch participants- volunteered their time and positive energy to help unload and sell Christmas Trees as part of the Holiday ...Pop-Up Shops in Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John. Skills Launch is a provincial work readiness program that provides experiential learning opportunities for young newcomer adults beginning to integrate into the Canadian labour market. Working with the settlement agencies involved with the pop-up fundraiser events, including the Multicultural Association of Fredericton Inc., the YMCA of Greater Saint John Newcomer Connections, The Saint John Newcomers Centre and MAGMA - AMGM, is a great way for Skills Launch participants to participate in something that might be culturally new to them, that builds working relationships and also allows them to feel like they are giving back to their communities and the organizations that first helped welcome them. Volunteers are particularly motivated to help out with this campaign, knowing how many people they know will benefit directly from the funds raised. Keep an eye out for all the great volunteers and staff working the stands over the next few weeks, who will gladly help you get a live Christmas tree in rain or shine!
