May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and to help get the word out about this disease, we will be highlighting tips and tricks on how to keep you and your loved ones safe. Did you know: Lyme disease is spread by the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. These ticks are often found in and near areas with trees, shrubs, tall grass or piles of leaves. The best way to protect your pets against Lyme disease is by avoiding tick bites:... Check your pets for ticks after being outdoors. Ticks often attach to the head, neck and ears of dogs and cats. Carefully remove attached ticks immediately with clean fine-point tweezers and wash the bite area with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizer. Talk with your veterinarian about tick-prevention products for pets and Lyme disease vaccines for dogs. For more information on how to protect yourself and your pet visit Canada.ca/LymeDisease.

Recreational facilities can encourage health and active lifestyles, provide educational opportunities, and help develop inclusivity within communities. That’s ...why government is investing $20,000 in partnership with the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth, Town of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and the Municipality of Argyle / Municipalité d'Argyle to support the development of the Yarmouth Mariners Centre expansion design plan to propose aquatic and community spaces for residents across Yarmouth County and broader regions. The Mariners Centre is a multi-purpose facility with two ice arenas capable of hosting trade shows, conventions, concerts, exhibitions, and many other activities. It is also a designated emergency shelter. For more information about the Mariners Centre, visit http://www.mariners-centre.com.
