The Tourism Accommodations Real Property Tax Rebate Program is a 25% rebate that helps eligible tourism accommodations operators with their 2020-2021 commercial property tax. To receive the rebate, eligible operators must have paid their commercial property tax bill in full or have entered into a payment plan with the Municipality of the County of Victoria. Council Re-Cap The Victoria County Municipal Council met on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. Taigh Curaim, a new daycare presented to council. They officially opened on October 7, after almost of year of work to establish the facility in the Baddeck Community Centre. Presently, there are 9 kids enrolled. Following recent discussions with local Transportation, Infrastructure & Renewal (TIR) staff, any resident with road issues or concerns should reach out to the provincial d...epartment via their toll-free number 1-844-696-7737 or by email at [email protected]. The number is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. By contacting the department this way, their system will communicate directly with local staff who can address the problem. District concerns included: lack of cell service along the North Shore; a lack of landline service in Boularderie; an abandoned cemetery along the Baddeck River requires attention and recognizing essential workers in Victoria County nursing homes. Municipality of Victoria County Nova Scotia 09.10.2020

The Victoria County Seniors Safety Program is a partner in a new pilot project to connect those over 55 with technology to help them stay connected. The program is overseen by Victoria County Home Support Services (VCHSS). The Cape Breton Regional Library is also a partner. This six-month pilot project is looking for 18 participants from across the county. If you are: Over the age of 55 or With possible mobility challenges... Have no access to a computer or internet and are interested in participaing, please contact the Victoria County Home Support Services (VCHSS) at 902-295-2877. Council Re-Cap The Victoria County Municipal Council was sworn in during a ceremony in Baddeck November 3, 2020. Blair Gallop, Victoria County Returning Officer presented the 2020 election results. Overall, the all-electronic election ran smoothly with a voter turnout at 65.6%. Results were available shortly after the polls closed on October 17. The busiest day for online voting was election day when 22% people voted, followed by 17% on October 7, the first day polls wer...e opened. Bruce Morrison was returned as Warden; Larry Dauphinee was returned as Deputy Warden. Council Committees were assigned to all councillors. Council jumped right into work discussing rural gas stations, specifically a plan to close the Ingonish Irving and how this could impact Emergency Measures and Tourism as well as the decision to pull Air Canada flights from the JAD McCurdy airport in Sydney during the down turn in air travel due to the pandemic.
