Guest Speaker: Noah Elkins Friday, March 5 at 3:30 NLT Noah Elkins is a Ph.D. student in Linguistics at UCLA. He is a phonologist, who's primarily interested in its interfaces with phonetics, morphosyntax, and psycholinguistics. Noah, known as @mediumnoah on the platform, has garnered a large following on his TikTok account in recent years. Noah uses this account to create & share linguistics-inspired TikToks. This popular account has reached many people, both linguists and n...on-linguists. In this way, Noah has played a major role in introducing the general public to the field of linguistics and has expanded the linguistics community in a new & exciting way! Join SLAM for a presentation and Q&A session with Noah, where we will hear more about his interest in linguistics, why he chose to pursue it, and the public responses he has received from his TikToks. A primary theme will be the impact that this social media account has had on the linguistics community, by making linguistics more accessible and relevant to the general public.
